Don't get the cup thing though, are they that much of a restriction? I would think it's mostly mental. I wonder what the problem is...they never bothered me, but then I played hockey, and was also a catcher so I was quite used to them. I get catchers are immobile, but hockey players aren't.

Hell, I still put one on pretty regularly - a friend's kid is a fastball pitcher, I catch for him at practice sometimes, and he (purposely!) puts the ball in the dirt pretty regularly.

Its all under the rubric of player safety, which Roger treats publicly as his greatest calling, but handles like a leaf blower he borrowed from his neighbor.

They are not connected and there is zero evidence they help anything. But Roger like to say player safety. A lot.
