  • 2018 Packers Seventh.2 Round Pick Hunter Bradley

THE PICK: HUNTER BRADLEY, LS, MISSISSIPPI ST.
    Height: 6025
    Weight: 241

    Projected Round: [udfa]
    Stock: Rated number 4 out of 40 LS's, 602 / 2196 TOTAL

QUICK TAKE (Tom Silverstein): Hunter Bradley played in the East-West Shrine game. So they liked him better than Tanner Carew, the long-snapper who went to the Senior Bowl. He was a tight end in high school. Didn't take over long-snapping duties until 2015.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

        Packer Report @PackerReport
Long snapper Hunter Bradley has suffered three torn ACLs. That spurred the change from tight end to long snapper.

Many Bothans died to give our punter new ligaments for his knee.

Wasting a pick on a fucking LS when there are sooo many other holes on this team makes no sense.

It's a seventh round pick for crissakes.

You are such a loser. If every pick isn’t an all pro, management isn’t doing all it can for the Packers to get what is rightfully theirs. I.e.: the Lombardi EVERY YEAR.

Only pick i didn’t like, should have picked an edge rusher or OL, you could have signed this guy after the draft or someone similar.

Have to agree with Brandon on this one.

I also wasn't wild about taking a punter. I thought Vogel was fine.

Yea Vogel is fine but this kid has a chance to be one of the top three punters in the league one day, the guy is 6-6 with a power leg

                        Speaking of which:

6th and 7th round picks are so often "blew up a Pro Day " or "injured last year" picks. Or rugby guys. Glorified die rolls.

I agree but that's why I enjoy Rounds 6-7. It's interesting to see where teams think they should roll dice. Bills think they need depth at receiver so they take two WRs. Eagles think they're at a point where a seventh-rounder probably won't make the 53 so they take a rugby guy.

Yeah, but I think it's clear that, to a degree, they are just grabbing bodies. It gets way past scouting acumen at that point.

The alternative is make the draft 5 or 6 rounds and have more UDFAs. The 7th round has a nice degree of silliness

Two of the Packer seventh round picks were pro day only guys. Its a grab bag.

...and you can't sign a 7th round quality edge rusher or OL after the draft?

I think this pick was a good one, for lots of reasons:

                          - LS was a mess for the Packers last year due to injury and poor performance.
                          - Goode isn't what he was, it's time to find a replacement.
                          - if this guy is the one they rate the highest in this draft class, "wasting" a 7th round pick is a small investment to get him into camp.
                          - there is no guarantee you can sign him after the draft; he can sign wherever he wants to.
                          - there aren't many LSs in a draft class, getting the one you think is best is a good move.
                          - there isn't a huge pool of good FAs looking for work. GB couldn't find one last year.

Who is really the better prospect, an OL who you rated somewhere between #35 and #40, or your #1 ranked LS?

Long snapper plays a lot more than the 11th O lineman on the practice squad. There is that consideration.

Does anyone really believe that Donnerson at 6'2" and 250 lbs. ran a 4.48 forty? Mmmm
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.
