yeah, brent conway or whatever the fuck his name was, was also suppose to be the top punter in the nfl when we traded way to to get him in the 3rd

and hedidn't make it out of the preseason

this guy has a massive flaw in that he takes his time getting the ball off. the team will have to speed that up, which means changing his mechanics. i would think speeding thigs up will cost him yardage and hangtime, and accuracy

the kid is not a sure thing imo

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

All pro day times are suspect. Teams do their own handheld timing, but the surface varies. I bet Belichick moves the cone a yard father away to slow down times of prospects he likes.

“I also get the comparison between JK Scott and B.J. Sander, but only because it’s pretty unusual to draft a punter before the sixth round. What makes this year different from what then GM Mike Sherman did in 2004 – besides Scott being selected two rounds later than Sander – is the talent of the two specialists.

Scott has one of the strongest legs I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing how effortlessly he can punt a ball 60 yards. He also gets remarkable hang time on his boots – which more often than not makes his sometimes shaky accuracy unimportant. Sander struggled to kick the ball 40 yards. And while his directional skills were pretty good, that didn’t help when a punt from the end zone only made it to the 30-yard line.

So while it’s completely fair to question the merits of ever taking a punter in the fifth round, it’s completely unfair to even think of comparing Scott to Sander. One has a rocket leg and one had a noodle leg. And one more thing – Gutekunst, unlike Sherman, didn’t trade up and give away an extra draft pick to get his punter.”

These are both true. It's good to have a few 7th round picks to grab some guys you want to be sure won't get away. and some guys on the margins can provide (especially) ST help. And the Packers are just good at getting 7th round value. Not gonna get a great Edge rusher, but you can get Mays, Janis, Barrington, Guy (helped NE), C.J. Wilson, Brad Jones (good at announcing better draft picks than him), Flynn, Swain, Harris, Tauscher, Driver. McKenzie, Timmerman, and even Bob effing Kuberski.

Wait, I think I just argued myself into thinking these 7th rounders are more valuable - but only for the Packers, because we are a KICK ASS organization!

Good points. You are on a roll....

Also, they didn't trade up to get him and he was one of 3 round five picks. They even got X-on Valdez Scantron after they picked the punter.

I think this pick was a good one, for lots of reasons:

                    - LS was a mess for the Packers last year due to injury and poor performance.
                    - Goode isn't what he was, it's time to find a replacement.
                    - if this guy is the one they rate the highest in this draft class, "wasting" a 7th round pick is a small investment to get him into camp.
                    - there is no guarantee you can sign him after the draft; he can sign wherever he wants to.
                    - there aren't many LSs in a draft class, getting the one you think is best is a good move.
                    - there isn't a huge pool of good FAs looking for work. GB couldn't find one last year.

Who is really the better prospect, an OL who you rated somewhere between #35 and #40, or your #1 ranked LS?
You make some good points to why they drafted him but doesn’t change the fact only 3 LS have been drafted since 2010. They could have also used the pick to move up but as long as he makes the team I’m happy.

You answered a question I came here to ask - I wasn't sure if any team had ever drafted an LS!

                        GBPG:

LOWDOWN: Earned a scholarship in the fall of 2016 and possesses the skills to snap at the highest level. Arrived at Mississippi State as a tight end, but became the primary snapper in the second week of his junior season in 2015 and was perfect since. Granted a sixth year by the NCAA and played the 2017 season after already having earned a degree. Played in 41 career games, went to a bowl game each year of his career and was part of the second-winningest senior class in school history. Will turn 24 on May 21. “It’s a dream come true,” Bradley said. “I always dreamed this day would come. Being a long snapper, it’s not something that happens often.”

QUICK TAKE (Tom Silverstein): Hunter Bradley played in the East-West Shrine game. So they liked him better than Tanner Carew, the long-snapper who went to the Senior Bowl. He was a tight end in high school. Didn't take over long-snapping duties until 2015.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.
