Injury settlement is possible for a guy with a non-season ending injury though. Not sure if the team offering the injury settlement can then sign the guy when he's eligible to come back.

I believe any other team can sign him after he is eligible to come back, but the team that placed him on IR has to wait 2 or 4 weeks longer. This prevents teams from having an unlimited IR-returns at the bottom of the roster.

Another day, another barrage of big kicks from rookie punter J.K. Scott. In six live punts against a rush, Scott averaged 54.9 yards with 4.74 seconds of hang time. He saved the best for a last, a remarkable 63-yarder with 4.96 seconds of hang time.
