Man, M Lewis must have signed for more than we thought.
Tom Silverstein @TomSilverstein
I'm starting to hear the #Packers aren't in good salary cap shape as reported. Because of cap charges that weren't previously calculated, multiple sources say they are very tight after their most recent spending spree. One source estimated it was close to $5M under. We'll see.
If its really that low ($5 mil below) then someone is getting cut.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Spotrac is close but has many discrepancies to reality. Their 2018 cap rollover number is an estimate vs actual. They don’t have the Allison deal. They don’t have the LTBE ProBowl bonus for Adams. They don’t have the Pankey deal from last year. Sprigg’s contract looks wrong...I can't run no more with that lawless crowd

The Packers cap space if you include ALL contracts is just under 5M. I wonder if that's what they were looking at.Originally posted by red View PostOver the cap does have Allison’s number, and Adams LTBE bonus (which is only 250k)
And they’re still showing 13.5 million freeI can't run no more with that lawless crowd

Well, Gutey got the guys he wanted.

Colts wanted to sign Preston Smith but were outbid by the Green Bay Packers. I'm told their bid for Smith was in the range of $12.5 million per year, slightly more than what they just gave to Justin Houston.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Patriots reportedly made a run at TE Jared Cook before he picked the Saints (and given that he has yet to officially join the Saints, maybe the Pats could still get him)

Very nice breakdown of Bell's contract performance and what he gained and gave up with the year out. Banner and Deadspin make a strong case that he and others are overestimating the value of fully guaranteed money versus the Year 2 payout.
And a nice bit about the common theme among the Packers, Steelers and Bengals. That they tend to do less guaranteed money in later contract years than other teams and tend to substitute larger signing bonuses. But they are among the teams least likely to bail before Year 2 because of that cap hit.
This is very true of the recent FA class. Its true of Rodgers last deal and I think it can be traced back to Shields deal. I suspect each significant FA deal after Rodgers first big deal has followed this pattern and been substantially different than the pay as you go model Ted and Russ worked with when they were first building the team.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Cardinals’ free-agent DT Rodney Gunter is visiting today with the Green Bay Packers, per source.

Gunter, a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, registered career highs in tackles (44), sacks (4.5) and forced fumbles (2) last season. He also tallied 11 tackles for losses and nine quarterback hits, also career highs.
Gunter played in all 64 games during his first four NFL seasons. The Cardinals played Gunter all over the defensive line last season, including at 3-technique and defensive end in their 3-4 front. He has terrific length and above average movement skills at his size.I can't run no more with that lawless crowd

Someone else mentioned that its another guy 4-5 years in (from the dreaded 2015 draft) who could be part of the young vet restocking program.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostBud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs.
