  • I can't run no more
    With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
    Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
    A thundercloud
They're going to hear from me - Leonard Cohen

    • Huh, “McCarthy helped resurrect Favre’s career”. Maybe that’s what M4 has done for AR12

            • MaLF, pros and cons.

              1. He can scheme a run game like no one's business. With everything falling apart in the second quarter at Dallas, Not-Mike somehow got the running game going in the second half after a terrible start to the season likely due to the O line shuffling. When he was hired, I thought his plan to base the O off of their run game was crazy given the O line shortcomings in the run game in 2018-19. He got it done. No way to hide and say it wasn't remarkable. He's good.

              2. Generally aggressive and I approve.

              3. The team seems to play for him. He doesn't seem to lose more than 1-2 players per year but they generally don't sink the ship.

              4. Bisaccia and Hafley were good hires. The early season debacle this year aside, Stenavich and Butkus seem capable of making good units on offense outside of the start to this season.

              5. He adjusts. This year they seem to do less razzle dazzle in the run game, waiting for the defense to get a taste of traditional plays before going mis-direction. I approve. The short passing game has improved this year as well.

              Cons

              1. 5.5 years in and I am still not sure how good he is as a pass game coordinator which is strange for a QB guru but perhaps not unheard of. Developing a QB is different than developing a passing game, the only connection is that the two must meet somewhere along the line.

But Rodgers ran his own stuff. Love was young, the receivers a weird grab bag of talent and often injured or dropping the ball. On the plus side this year he is still getting Kraft and Doubs open. You'd think the D would key on them. Sometimes it just seems like very hard work to get a drive going with the passing game. Love's ball security issues don't help and neither do late schedule off balance throws to double coverage deep. And the O Line this year isn't helping anyone but the opposing D.

              2. Joe Barry was a mistake to hire.

              3. He is the worst grade yearly on the Packers NFLPA report card. He's not failing, but its weird he is the focus of the few negative grades they get. He missed that Doubs was about to pout his way out of practice. He missed Jaire naming himself captain. I literally think he needs a players council he talks to because he is missing things in his locker room or his assistants are reluctant to share.

              4. After Rodgers, its a little weird that the coach is the most tightly wound person in the locker room. Even Holmgren used to pretend to be easy going. But Parsons might give him some room to maneuver.

              5. I don't care what the analytics staff say about time spent practicing and don't care what Gute wants, give Bisaccia whatever time he needs to stop the ST bleeding. Just be average for Bart's sake.

              6. Record against good teams recently. Its not pretty recently. This year is a little different so far, but a lot of slow starts against those teams.

On balance a net plus but very strange to have so many questions 5+ years in.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

              • I wish LaFleur would get a real Offensive Coordinator instead of Stenavich who is basically just an overpaid O Line coach. Why? Because LaFleur many times has put together a good game plan that works great, then failed to adjust when the defense adjusts to what he is doing. Having the head coaching duties may be part of the reason for that.

That is weird, that one about the NFLPA. As you said, the players seem to mostly play hard for him, but he IS really tightly wound - I don't like his smirky aggressive schtick at his pressers - and he does seem to miss some warning signs about certain players.

So I dunno. But then I think about Andy Reid, who didn't win it all for years in Philly, then went to KC and boom - Super Bowls. Is it just Mahomes was the difference?
