  • J.K. Scott - What has happened to his performance?

Is he injured? His punting fell off a cliff a month ago.
Game by game gross punting average:

    47.6
    47.6
    53.0
    51.5
    49.5
    51.7
    55.3

    35.3
    37.6
    35.3
    37.2

He has lost 15 yards on his kicks. He was consistently around 50 yards in his first seven games, consistently around 36 in his last four, and it hasn't been one bad kick ruining the game average. It's consistent, kick to kick.

Bad punts with an ineffective offense consistently gave SF scoring opportunities in the first half even though the SF offense was not really hitting on all cylinders Huge reason for the first half scoring.

Good post. That's super interesting. No idea what happened but seems very unusual.

It's a mystery. It's one thing to average 35 in snow at Lambeau. But 60 degree weather in San Francisco is another matter.

It sure looks like he lost his follow through on his punting...earlier it appeared that he would finish his kicks with his kicking leg far above his head...now it barely reaches his chin...like pooch kicking it...

Yeah, I almost said it’s getting colder, but at least 2 of those 4 games were in perfect Cali weather

          So that’s not it

It seems to be part of a bigger story. He’s not the only one that has regressed barley this year

Kenny Clark and lowery have really been non factors this year

Alexander has maybe gotten worse, definitely hasn’t gotten better

King looks like a complete train wreck this year

Lindsey and back both have taken a big step backwards

And then there’s the massive decline of rodgers

And graham is somehow even more worthless then he was last year

For some reason a large chunk of this team has regressed since last season, which wasn’t exactly a good year

          And yet somehow we’re 9-2

8-3 and Scantling has regressed, also. Have I missed anyone else?

Red said "back", that's Red-ese for Bahktiari.

Back (ha) to the punter. Kickers and punters are like golfers. A slight loss of confidence can throw their performance into a total funk. I agree he looks like his follow thru has reduced sine he's gotten into this slump. If he's in a 15 yard funk in good conditions, whats the kid gonna do when the mercury drops and that icy wind comes off the Bay?

He's got to study tape and get himself BACK on track.

Coaches need to get him some confidence pills.

If lack of follow through, perhaps injury?
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

In what game was it that he had a punt partially blocked? Is that when his "slump" started? Did they get his leg at all (injury?), or just the ball? Has he lost confidence/comfort because of that?

                          It was the Chargers: https://www.chargers.com/video/drue-...k-scott-s-punt

But it wasn't much of a hit.

Punters seem to take time to develop. I thought the Pack ditched a perfectly good punter for Scott, so they'd better ride this out and not panic. He is in a slump, for sure.

This all points up how all three units are dependent on one another. The Packers' slide in play is connected in part to the poorer field position the punting unit gives, as well as the abysmal return game. Let me say it again: abysmal.

Even if we started every drive at the opponents 20, we would still have a lot of trouble scoring
