  • Rashan Garys second season!

19 pressures in two hundred and whatever snaps. He flashed as a rookie.

His rookie camp he was regularly rag dolling the backups.

In his second year one of the reporters was asked the difference between camp 1 and camp 2. The response was camp 2 he did the same things vs the starters.

Pettine said he was really happy to see Gary came back having improved in all of the areas they asked him to improve. Said during a time when maybe there was an excuse to not make gains with all of the change, Gary clearly did everything possible

Gary’s workout videos on twitter were awesome last year. This year even better. Biggest difference is his agility and he’s lower to the ground with his movements. You can see a more agile, flexible, leverage advantaged player in year 2.

Mike Smith said he thinks Gary, a 22 year old 2nd year player might be the best edge setter in his really talented OLB room. Not the worst thing when facing a team like SF.

Gary said the smiths have taught him a lot about tells the offense gives and that he’s so much more comfortable in his assignments so he can just have fun and play fast. Insists he’s going to be in the backfield.

No guarantees, but work ethic and rare physical talent are pointing to Gary being a violent, impactful player in his sophomore campaign. Z learned from Suggs. Gary is learning from Z. Gary has his ideal matchups and situations. He should play a ton against a team like SF. He should also be put against tackles who struggle with power or guards who struggle with speed. He’s a clear advantage in several situations in 2020.

If put in the right spots, Gary should be an extremely impactful player in 2020. He’s still probably a year or two away from every down savvy vet status, but luckily, we’ve got two of those guys already on the roster.

Look for 2020 to be a highlight reel riddled season for Rashan Gary, playing probably 60% of defensive snaps!

    45 pressures
    7 sacks
Huge upgraded run defense with Gary locking down edges on early downs

Perfect progress for a young, high upside draft pick and an especially valuable run piece for a team that plays a lot of nickel and dime.

He flashed last year for sure. He flashed a bunch of shit. Hopefully he produces remotely near where he was drafted someday

Wasn't Mike Smith the one who said Gary was the best Edge in last year's draft ?

7 sacks is very realistic though given most of the focus will be on the Smith brothers and Gary should greatly benefit from not being a focus.

I myself called Gary "Old Half Step" last season...Always a half of a step from doing something productive. If he can find the gear to get there in time he really could be a disruptive player.

I think it was the second bears game where he THREW the guard aside. He flashed some last year. I am not sold yet, as my biggest concern is he isn't instinctive enough to transition from run to pass. I think as a 3rd down rush specialist he could have a good career. He could probably be a short yardage specialist as well, but an every down player who has to honor both run and pass I just question the instincts.

Summed that up pretty well. Good point. There’s no certainties with Gary, but that sure is a possible downfall.

A lot of "instincts" in the NFL are a product of hard work. It sounds like he's been putting in the hard work this off season, both physically in his training, and mentally with learning offensive tells. No guarantees, but the signs are encouraging. Also he's another year removed from the injury he had in college.

I have argued this point with Tex, but with a guy who plays closer to the line like 3-4 OLB or DL the keys can be taught and are more important. With his superior physical gifts I am hoping he can learn enough to be 3 downs effective, but as I said, if his career is nothing more than a 3rd down pass rush specialist, he can still have a really nice career.

I think he sees a lot of action on early downs subbing in for Z Smith - sometimes anyway - because he supposedly can set the edge better. On passing downs, I expect to see Gary on the field with both Smiths, and Zakarius rushing inside a lot in that set.

I'm trying to think up some bad shit to say about Gary, but my heart's just not in it. It's all so weird now. I did not realize how much the fans in the stands mattered.

Also, has anybody heard from PB? Where the hell did he go? If Covid didn't get Wist, it couldn't have gotten PB, right?

Who among you guys is in that "Garbage Can" section of the forum? And how does one go about trying to get into it? I suspect a lot of the answers to the mysteries are in there.

I no longer have access to the Garbage Can, but the last time I was there, I had some nice readings, thanks to ole Bretsky.

One week in Gary leads packers players affecting QB with 3 pressures and 2 hits. Z second with 3 pressures and 1 sack.
