I don't think Rodgers will be gone, and I don't think Jones will be gone. If either or both are gone, though, I will be ready to lynch Gutekunst, Running him out of town would be too good for him. We might be able to survive a loss of Jones - lesser but still near the top, but if he really is trying and does succeed in getting rid of Aaron Rodgers, the Packers immediately become a lower half of the NFL team. I wish he hadn't drafted Love. If Rodgers stays, then Love is irrelevant for 3, 4, 5 years or more.

When second contract time came for Rodgers, it seemed like a good idea to pay him and keep him over Favre. I very much doubt that will be the case with Love.

Seems he has done a very good job of adding solid to very good fa's and did so in a way that doesn't f'up cap flexibility.
That sounds like a plan. That $21.5 million should be possible to be manipulated into enough that when combined with cap increase will make it possible to re-sign everybody we want to keep and maybe pick up somebody from some other team. Yeah, I have heard the cap will stay the same or even decrease. That to be is highly unlikely.

Rg I hope you are right. Good analysis of his drafts

I think RG has overstated the draft and many of those players are at "replacement level" but they are also still developing.

Loved the Alexander pick when it was announced, although there were a few players there I'd have been happy with. The Love and Gary picks were pretty divisive and will also define Gute's tenure. I'm waiting for Savage to get better; so far he's regressed and his range is incredible but his tackling is iffy.

As for drafting Love while Rodgers wants to keep playing, if Rodgers keeps playing like he is they have to keep him. That's not a horrible situation IF Love can show in preseason or garbage time that he can play. Some team would likely throw picks at GB to pry him away a la Hasselbeck, Brooks, etc. If they get rid of Love to pick up a high to mid R1 that's not awful.

Not to mention the potential benefits if Rodgers goes down with an injury.

Gute got rid of one of the guys Rodgers.meshed best with and brought in Graham.

If anything, one of gutes best moves was sticking with these young up and comers who are starting to mesh with 12 instead of reaching for a rookie WR or signing one in UFA. 12 is really playing great, in large part I believe because instead of chasing names, he invested in 12 by keeping a group together he can build that chemistry with

More than guys just leaving green bay and lighting up the league (see cobb, Nelson, Jones, Jennings) it looks like most of 12s success was more playing with guys he really meshed with. If they were so great, they would have been great else where too. But that chemistry and staying together was the key to 12s best years.

Maybe we don't have julio Jones or Zeke Elliot now.

                  But
                  Adams (same page with 12)
Jones (12 can do whatever he wants and Jones knows the plan)
Jamal Williams (same. Knows how to adapt to 12s complexity)
Lazard (same. Took a couple years but same)
                  Big bob (same)
                  Mercedes (same)
MVS (finally on the same page)
                  Stergberger (getting there)
Deguara (a quick chemistry, 12 kinda guy)

A good vet OL that can handle all the line changes

It's a different in the sense that it's tight ends and running backs with just a few WRs that 12 likes, but it's the same in the sense that it's long term chemistry guys that 12 can open up his presnap playbook with.

Gute really hit a home run by ignoring the fans this offseason.

And then there is lafleur and Rodgers. Rodgers is benefitting from lafleurs deception by packing similar plays and similar motions to slow.down defenses. And lafleur is.benefitting from Rodgers generational field general skills at the line of scrimmage. It's become a Shanahan style.offense with Rodgers style play command and Rodgers style chemistry guys around him vs having super stars.

It's the perfect blend of two guys mindsets.

Gutes credit is finding lafleur and ignoring offseason cries.to destroy 12s chemistry with paper names. And the other guys get credit for bringing it all together
