Great Scott just punted it 62 yards vs Houston, plus the penalty makes it a 72 yard play.

Next time on the field Scott punts from mid-field to the 2 yard line of the Texans.
Having a great day so far.

Seriously though, you can't judge him very easily based on minimal use. For his contract he is fine. If I had a really good team I would have a coffin corner punter who would kick it 35 yards and out of bounds every kick.
That's a lost art, the coffin corner punt. I don't know why they don't teach that. It was deadly.

For a punter to get picked in the fifth round is a big deal. Scott has not been a big deal.

I must say I'm not super impressed with Gute's drafting. That offense is keyed by guys all picked by Thompson. Elgton Jenkins is the best offensive player Gute has drafted. He's good, but that's not a ringing endorsement when your best pick is an offensive guard. Who else on that offense has he drafted? AJ Dillon, and....Sternberger...and....?

Gute hasn't drafted many guys who have been impact players... yet. What today proved though is that he's really improved the depth of this team. This team today was missing at least 6 guys who would have been considered key starters at the start of the season.( Bakhtiari, Lane Taylor, Lazard, Aaron Jones, Kirksey, Savage, King) Yet they didn't miss a beat and actually had one their best performances of the season.

Of those only Savage was a draft pick by Gute. I agree with Fritz; it's a good Gute utilizes free agency
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

He's doing it the right way. Draft guys based on upside, and using FA to fill temporary needs.

I haven’t been able to profile him just yet. But this interesting and very likely true. He does seem to draft for upside and fill in holes with free agency.

Of course, the next three years will be different with Covid but it’s a good early description.

I haven't seen a word in here about the blocked punt (unless I missed something in the Gameday Thread). Don't get me wrong, I have a fairly high opinion of Scott, but I was a little worried even on the 60+ yarder and in other games about him taking too much time and getting one blocked. He's decent, but not all that super IMO.

RG, what's with the "3 years" bullshit?
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Back to original subject, J.K. Scott is 17th in punting average, 24th in net average. He's only 21st in punts inside 20, but he's punted less than just about everybody.

The analytics guys need to come up with some new punting metrics that give us a better idea of a guys situational effectiveness and overall effectiveness. Maybe a pooch metric, a mid range metric and a long range metric.... see who’s good at what and how often they’re getting each type of opportunity. There has to be a better way, we’re just guessing at this point.

This sounds like the most boring job in the entire world. Coming up with punting metrics. Does it come with a free noose?

That blocked punt was on Dexter Williams IMO. He was the edge protector and basically got run over on the play. Jamaal Williams replaced him on the next punt. Dexter's blocking (or lack of) is likely what keeps him on the sideline/PS.
