  • C Wood HOF

Charles Woodson is a first ballot Hall of Famer. The Raiders made Woodson the fourth overall choice in 1998, and the defensive back played 11 years in Oakland — during two different stints — and seven in Green Bay. Woodson was a nine-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro and earned a Super Bowl ring with the Packers. He earned his SB ring while sustaining a broken collar bone in the SB vs the Steelers.

He won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, and, in 2009, was named Defensive Player of the Year. Woodson also was on the NFL’s all-decade team for the 2000s.

Wood ended his career with 65 interceptions, 183 pass breakups and 13 defensive touchdowns.

On the bummer side of things, 145 players have won All Decade honors from 1960 to 2020. 143 of them are in the Hall. Drew Pearson was named today. That leaves LeRoy Butler as the only guy that won all decade honors not in the hall. Hope LeRoy gets in next year. He definitely deserves it.

Butler should have made it over Lynch. I know Lynch has a lot more Pro Bowls (popularity contest), but they are equal on All-Pros and championships. Butler was named to the All-1990s team. Lynch was not voted to the All-2000s team. Butler had 38 career interceptions and 20.5 career sacks. Lynch had 26 and 13.

The leader of the 2010 SB champions. Always liked him as a raider so it was fun to see him come in the twilight of his career and win the big game.

I overheard a middle-aged Packer fan say to his son after watching Woodson make a play in Green Bay in 2010, "Charles gives me Wood, son."

One of the all-time greats. Can't think of any corners that deserve the honor more than him.
