The reason that the tackle positions are harder to fill is that the big dudes have to be nimble enough to deal with speed rushers. They are more valuable because of smaller supply.

That would explain the generally higher pay for tackles than guards, but it says nothing about the comparative importance of the positions, which I say again, is MUCH tilted toward guard being more important.
