      Clinched Division: Packers, Cowboys, Buccaneers

      Clinched Playoff Berth: Rams, Cardinals

      In The Hunt: 49ers (8-7), Eagles (8-7), Saints (7-7), Vikings (7-8), Falcons (7-8), Football Team (6-9)

Eliminated: Panthers, Bears, Seahawks, Giants, Lions
      I can't run no more
      With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
      Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
      A thundercloud
They're going to hear from me - Leonard Cohen

I'm almost as concerned about the Packers clinching homefield next week and not having thus a meaningful game for three weeks. The Flower's record after byes is not good, and this team has lost its focus.

MLF is 3-2 after byes (2-0 in the divisional round after getting a bye for wild card weekend), and the two losses were to the eventual NFC representative in the Super Bowl (San Fran in 2019, Tampa in 2020).

Assuming everybody wins out, our first game would I think be against the 4th seed - Tampa. I wouldn't say that would be scary, but it would be kinda like last season. Pick your poison - any of the 2nd - 4th seeds would be tough, but getting them at home, we ought to be able to handle them.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

I don’t see the Rams winning both games, so there’s a good chance that the Buccaneers are the #3 seed. If the #6 seed is San Fran, Brady vs Jimmy G might be fun.

This is more than just a bye, if the Packers wrap up the #1 seed before the Detroit game. I'm not saying I don't hope for that - I always want the Pack to do well - but I'm concerned that this team is in a funk, and I wonder what is necessary to get them to play with the focus they seemed to have about six weeks ago.

There have also been instances of teams going into the playoffs playing poorly, then suddenly rocking it in the playoffs. So anything can happen, and the hot team going in - Dallas, at the moment - doesn't always pan out.

But the Packers do seem slow starters after a bye. 3-2 isn't bad, but comparing that to his overall record, well, it's not as good, either.

Niners Jimmy G has a fractured bone in his right thumb along with a torn ligament.

Thus ends the 49ers career of Jimmy G, who oscillated between below average and above average, and always looked better than that because of the circumstances in which he played.
