  • RIP, John Madden.

Made football accessible to a lot of folks.

Seemed like a genuine bloke, unspoiled by his fame and fortune.

My wife met him and his wife and their dogs at a local park near our place in Burbank.

She had no idea who he was. She came home and said she ‘met a football coach’ and gave me a description which quickly narrowed it to Madden. She said they were a nice couple.
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

Has there been anyone that meant more to pro football over the last 35 years?

This is someone who I would have liked to meet, because I think what you saw on TV, was genuinely who he was, and with my history in TV, that is not always the case.

He will meet up with Pat to call the big game from the skybox.

RIP sir. I learned about football and more listening to you in the booth.

One of the greats. Game won't be quite the same without him, as it hasn't since his retirement.

Yeah, he just happens to die right after his tv special.
At the hight of holidays, which is the hight of football season.
            Raiders definitely win Sunday.

And get this, Dec 24, 1977, Ghost to the post. He dies 5 days after the Anniversary of game.
Who do Raiders play Sunday? Colts of course.

Legend! About 20 years ago I was at Manny’s Steakhouse in downtown Minneapolis. We got seated at a table next to Madden. Watching his body language, the man genuinely seemed to be loving life.

                  I can't run no more
                  With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
                  Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
                  A thundercloud
