  • 2022 Fourth Round Pick, #132, WR Romeo Doubs

    CBS Sports

    Romeo Doubs WR, NEVADA
    Height: 6-2, Weight: 201

I like this pick more in Green Bay than I would have for other teams. Doubs is a field-stretcher who tracks it awesomely deep. Spindly frame and not great at beating press. Won't be a big-time separator and YAC is average.

    Rating: 70.85 (Chance to start)

    Pro Comparison: Zach Pascal

    Strengths:

Decently sized vertical specialist with high-caliber ball-tracking skills. His spindly frame really makes him susceptible to contact during the route. Minimal YAC. Some wiggle to beat press but not a specialty. Best when he get click on the jets and get vertical, will run by some slower CBs in those scenarios and will run down the football.

    Weaknesses:

Really struggles against physicality. Routes aren't brutal but he's not an explosive, twitchy type. At times, it'll draw flags of course, but in many instances he's simply disrupted from his route and either can't get open or won't get to where he needs to be when he needs to be there. Speed is good, not great.
"There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

I liked this pick but it was based on media heads in the podcasts I listened to pre draft pimping him as a great fit in GB

I still want another high upside WR with one of our 4 picks in R7.

ew Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs, taken with the 132nd overall selection, is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons for Nevada.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers struck again at receiver, using the first of their fourth-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft on Nevada’s Romeo Doubs.

That pick comes on the heels of trading up for North Dakota State’s Christian Watson in the second round on Friday.

      Here’s the story on Doubs.

      Measureables: 6-1 7/8, 201. 10 hands. DNP testing (knee)

Stats: Doubs is one of the most productive receivers in the class. In four seasons, he caught 224 passes for 3,322 yards (14.8 average) and 26 touchdowns. He had 40-plus receptions in every season and 1,000-plus yards as a junior and senior. In 2021, he caught 80 balls for 1,109 yards (13.9 average) and 11 touchdowns. Plus, he averaged 12.5 yards per punt return with one touchdown in four seasons.

Deeper Stats: According to PFF, he had four drops (4.8 percent), averaged 4.0 YAC and had 12 receptions on passes thrown 20-plus yards downfield. His contested-catch rate was an excellent 60.0 percent. According to Sports Info Solutions, he forced 15 missed tackles per 100 touches, good for 25th out of 46 receivers it ranked in the draft class, and was 14th with 10.0 yards per target.

Personal Touch: Doubs’ older brother, Jarmaine, who played cornerback at Southern Utah, got Romeo hooked on football when he was 4. “The Lord’s definitely blessed me with him because everything I learned was with him," Doubs told Nevada Sports Net. "Eventually I was going to have to come here to college and grow up on my own, so whenever things didn’t go my way, whether it was in a harsh way, he had to be on me. Or if it was just me talking to him being able to figure out and just get advice and learn then elevate from there.”

At the Scouting Combine, he said he watched a lot of A.J. Green. The Senior Bowl was a key piece to his path to the NFL. "I learned Senior Bowl week that I can compete with anybody, whether if you go to Alabama, if you go to Penn State," Doubs said. "I'm just a kid who comes from from the city of L.A. who's just got a chip on his shoulder. So I think up into that, I just knew that I had to give my best shot out there. And I thought I did great at doing that because I got some I got some people's attention."

NFL Draft Bible Scouting Report: Doubs is the definition of a true vertical threat. Doubs has a high-cut 6’2 frame and uses this to really open up his stride and hit a true second gear downfield. Very good vertical separator who stacks DB’s downfield with an innate feel for keeping on defenders back. Juice to separate vertically, but also capable of stopping on a dime. Doubs has inside/outside versatility and a clean release package when allowed to release freely. On vertical routes, Doubs shows the ability to high point with a wide catch radius.

            ESPN

            Pre-Draft Analysis
Doubs led the FBS in catches (12), touchdowns (9) and receiving yards (500) on post routes over the past two seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. He shakes defenders with quick feet at the line of scrimmage and tracks the ball well. He has the big mitts, length and body control to adjust to passes thrown outside his frame, and he flashes the ability to make the first defender miss after the catch. -- Steve Muench

              He's better than J'Mon Moore.

Can return punts and run deep routes. Like all these guys his route tree needs developing but he has good potential to be a WR2/3. Injury affected his ability to test out, but I suspect his agility is so-so and his flying 20 better than his overall. Not a burner but it seems like he has a second gear.

Decent value pick for a guy who had a productive career. Led the Wolfpack in receiving yards his last two seasons, was 2 on team his Soph year. With good coaching he could be a good player.

Does Doubs have some James Jones in him?

Agreed. He's a legit prospect: I think he was good "draft value" as Gute said. We used about roughly the 22 & 53 in draft capital to nab 3 guys, all whom I lile.

It's being reported that at the Senior Bowl, Doubs and Watson had some of the fastest recorded speeds there - presumably determined with GPS chips. He's got some build up speed and is a taller receiver so he might eat up cushion fast. Seems like his hands/concentration is ok and contested catches aren't a problem. Might have some James Jones to him, but I think Jones was a bigger body. Doubs looks a bit more linear/high cut to me.

He had a knack for taking the top off a defense.

Jon Eric Sullivan, Packer scout, said he ran 4.5s but that his game speed is legit. Said he showed potential to be a good route runner with his breaks and cuts.

James Jones compared him to Greg Jennings, said hes smooth in and out of his breaks and has high potential as a route runner.

This is a really interesting pick. Good size. High potential as a route runner. Knack to win deep. He could round into an all around receiver. Kind of a prototypical skill set

I need to watch more video of him, but I guess he torched his share of Senior Bowl CBs, and went from being a deep threat to catching more intermediate routes last year, so his route tree isn't completely barren. He could surprise people if given the chance to develop. At a minimum he can play ST and unless he turns into Cory Rodgers should get a roster spot based on that and his draft status.

I'm on the bandwagon just because of his name lol.

The TD at 1:28 was pretty.

Hard to see the speed in this video, but looks like he's got great hands.

I dont know if he has the speed to be a complete player. If his speed ends up being adequate, he does show the upside to run the full route tree. In breaking, out breaking, slants, quick outs, come backs, etc. If he can win on a few go routes, he has potential to be an all around WR as he masters his routes and chemistry with 12.
