Carpenter and Abernathy are 2 guys still very much on the bubble. There were some safeties with starting experience waived by other teams today.
If they can find a safety that can also play special teams. Right now, these guys are going to play on at least 2-4 special teams units.

Keeping 10 O-Yokozunas is dumber than Tony O’Day. Plenty of the top dawgs, especially the Fucking Center, Josh Newman, Royce Newman and Tommy Zach, can play multiple positions.
Rhyan was a 3rd rounder and it’s alway nice to see oddities in the rye (yo, Taylor Rapp!), but the Yokozuna wouldn’t even make a XFL roster. What the fuck did Walker do to earn a spot?
German Shepherd shoulda kept Ty Goodson and Uncle Rico instead of Rhyan and Walker. Goddamn, gonna miss Rico’s 94 speed on Madden.
Ford seems to be the biggest surprise. He didn't seem to show much in camp, plus you have both Slaton and Clark at the nose, so you'd think they would have been able to cut him and get him onto the practice squad. Maybe they had intel that another team would pick him up? I don't know.
Carpenter I understand - he's been seen as a special teams guy who could be very good that way.
As for other cuts, I was kind of hoping they'd keep the kicker, whose name I can't remember, and keep Crosby on the PUP for the first four games. A mini- tryout for your future kicker. Obviously they can try to get the new guy on the PS, but Joe mentioned that Dallas might be sniffing around.
I would guess that the Packers are scouring the waiver wire for safeties, to see if there's an upgrade to Abernathy, or to add an extra safety and cut someone at another postion group (like Ford).
ACME Packing Company wonders if keeping all this year's picks, some of whom did not get many snaps preseason and did not play as well as others competing for the same position (defensive line, offensive line for two examples), indicates some discord between the coaching staff and Gutekunst. But that's speculative.
Who knows? Now we'll see if our Packer bias is based on reality or is just bias, and many of the Green Bay cuts end up elsewhere and not on the Packer PS. I'd guess Caleb Jones has a good chance of finding a job somewhere on an NFL roster.

His name is the Muslim Kicker. He’s a poor man’s Younghoo Koo. And his release from the Packers ain’t nothing but the byproduct of nepotism.
Crosby is a coin flip every fucking time he kicks a field goal, can’t kickoff worth a fuck anymore, and yet he’s still around. All because he’s a golf buddy of Butte.
I would've kept Heflin over Ford. Probably would have kept Slayton over Ford too. Most of the other cuts weren't surprising.
Keeping just 2 RBs means they'll probably try to bring back both Goodson and Taylor to the PS for call-ups until Hill is back and use Amari in a pinch for emergencies.
A lot of Crosby's woes were because of the snap & hold. That's changed, presumably for the better. Still, I'd try to sign "the Muslim kicker" (APB's words) to the PS. He's got a big leg and if his accuracy has improved could be starting next year.
Rudy Ford signed, so either Abernathy or Carpenter get cut. I’m guessing Carpenter because Abernathy looks more ready to help on defense, and the other backups are “ST only” types.

I don't really understand the point of having both Leavitt and Ford on the roster. They do the same thing with very little upside. Ford may be able to fill in on the defensive side more than Leavitt.
Last year was the 1st time Ford play a significant number of snaps on defense- 43%. He's been a core ST player. Drafted in the 6th round by Cardinals. Reunion of former Cardinals (Campbell, Douglas) on Packers defense continues.

So now we have two Jonathan Fords, one with an extra h ad the other with an extra hundred pounds or so? Let's hope they don't put the DT at S and vice versa hahahaha.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

The Bears claimed 6 players on waivers. How much of a cluster f*** is their roster? I'm beginning to think the Lions will finish in 3rd place this year.
