He can’t protect anything if he’s not on the field. It shouldn’t take 2 years to come back from a knee injury. Bahk is done. He would be lucky to play half a season worth of football next year. Why keep him for that?

      Tom Silverstein

By giving G Elgton Jenkins a $24M signing bonus and adjusting his base salary, the #Packers were able to write off $4.3M of his deal on the '22 salary cap and structure his deal so he will count just $6.8M against the cap in '23, according to a source. Helps them out a lot.

Andy Herman mentioned the incentives where related to performance at TACKLE.

Presumably indicates of where they see him playing in the future and makes roster construction/cap mgmt interesting.
I think he's best at G, but whatever.

Interesting! Did they not think he was a turn style at tackle? Harvey what’s your take? I kind of like how the new young buck is doing at tackle and wouldn’t mind seeing him settle down there.

I think Jenkins' struggles at RT was mostly a result him still adjusting to playing after a serious knee injury. It's only the last few weeks he's started to look like himself. I'll bet if they had to put him there now, he'd do better. He was fine at LT in 2021 before his injury. Still, he's a solid Tackle but an All-Pro at Guard, so I'd rather see him at Guard.

I think Tom should play tackle, full stop.

Jenkins looks bigger/thicker and is better at guard IMO, but if they want to let him play RT they better give him a full offseason to get used to the technique. He hadn't played much RT before this season, and when he did he was still coming back from the ACL injury. He looked very, very bad.

Even if those incentives were just for the agent to use for announcing the contract, he's still going to be paid like a top 10 T and a top 2 G.
He's being very well paid when you consider he's made exactly one Pro Bowl.

When healthy EJ is a very solid Tackle and an elite Guard. The fact that he can do both at a very high level made resiging him a no brainer
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

That last year looks a lot like funny money to me. Hopefully he plays well enough that they're forced to extend him rather than cut him, but time does terrible things to players.

So basically, it is a three year extension.

Maybe not, if when we get to 2026 he's one of the elite Guards in the NFL. Salary cap will be going up. Salaries for elite players will be going up as well.

I pretty much agree with this take. He has come on of late, but his first couple games at LG weren't stellar either. This contract is about Jenkins and has nothing to do with any other player.
