I like Hafley's style of D in general, but with the game on the line yesterday the last play, he shoulda gone with pressure instead of umbrella coverage. Our pass D just wasn't good enough, and if they had even only flushed the QB from the pocket as they had been doing all day, enough time woulda been used so that they couldn't have spiked it in time to kick the FG.

Defense was a lot better this year. We saw more 3rd and short stops this season than the last 5 combined.

I didn't like the scheme on the last defensive play of the game today, the middle of the field was completely open. They gambled that the Bears had to attack the sideline to get into field goal range. Safeties were way too deep protecting for a hail mary attempt. After the ball was caught, the smartest thing to do was to allow him to run to the 10 yard line and make the tackle leaving no time left for the spike and then the field goal.

Need some more help in the draft/free agency.
Not sure if we need to consider any position coaching changes.

Injuries were definitely a factor.
It forced us to scheme differently towards the end of the season.
There are several players who won’t be here within 2 seasons due to some combination of injury, performance, and contract.

I think the injuries to Alexander, Williams, Bullard and Anderson forced Hafley to go with more deep shell late in the season than he wanted to (Barry-like). They need another offseason to get guys who are fits in the defense. Through 16 games, Packers defense was 6th in points allowed and 8th in yards allowed. I think it was a good start for the new DC.Originally posted by Bretsky View PostValid points. And I too question our competence in drafting defensive players.
23--Van Ness, who never started at Iowa, should have never been drafted by Green Bay
22---Quay Walker---is he a disappointment ? I am unsure where I am on Wyatt
21- Eric Stokes
And Rashan Gary- Disappointing after he got the big $$$$$$
Year after year we are about average. We had more turnovers this year, but when we needed key game stops often you couldn't notice the change at DC. And how often do we get pressure without a blits....like....hardly ever ?

Trying to decide the breakdown, coaching vs. scheme vs. players is the real difficulty.
For all the high picks we have invested on defense, they are underperforming.

Truth be told he called a shit game today
And we were definitely not ready for that stack play that left their best WR versus our subpart CB out on an island. That was too easy

One issue with the points scored metric is that if you play at a slow pace (MLF and especially AR offenses are slow paced) that speeds up the game, which means less possessions and less opportunities to score points.
I'd be more inclined to look at points per drive allowed or other metrics in addition to points scored. People have poo-poo'd opposed QB rating as a metric, but I haven't heard why. I'd think 3rd and 4th down conversion rates could provide a good idea of how good a defense is at getting off the field.
A stat is more meaningful when it has context.

Yeah, by my count Barry's defenses gave up more than 30 8 times and exactly 30 twice.

If that is what they said, I suggest that you not rely on ESPN radio.Originally posted by Bretsky View PostPer ESPN Radio, in his several seasons in GB Joe Barry'd defense gave up over 30 points 4 times.
This year Hatley's defense has given up over 30 points three times. We looked Barry Like versus Detroit
