Ed Policy to replace Mark Murphy in 2025.

Mark Murphy to continue leading organization until July of 2025 with Policy to assume the role at next year’s Packers Annual Meeting of Shareholders

The worst kept secret in sports. Policy has been involved in the business and legal side of the Packers organization. He is the former commissioner of the Arena Football League.

True, but we shouldn't hold that against him.

But seriously folks...it will be interesting to see if he is as involved in football decisions as Murphy was. Murphy had played in the NFL under a HOF coach and had been an athletic director in college (so he had hired many coaches). Policy has done none of that.

We’ll just have to wait and see what his . . . Policy is on that.

Me, I think if he does get involved that heavily, it would be a poor . . . Policy.

            Hey, this is fun!

But the Sparkey started it with his thread title. He had me there.

Did we never have a ‘fire Murphy’ thread?

I should have titled the thread.

Packers have Policy to replace Murphy!

seems like a pretty smart move, as long as he keeps his nose out of the on field product

guys had his hands on everything else involving the team for quite a while now

the business side of the franchise, community involvement and the fans should be in good hands with this guy

I wonder if he's going to keep this silo thing going, which means his hands are in the pie, or if he's going to go the more traditional route and give Guter more power. Though then what happens to Russ "I'm Having a" Ball?

Actually what Murphy did was get rid of the silos, where MLF did his thing, Gute did his thing, and Russ Ball did his thing. Now they all report to Murphy. I suspect Policy will keep something similar in place. Policy hasn't been involved in the football side of the business, but he comes from a football background. It won't be like a situation you have in Carolina where you have a former hedge fund manager making football decisions.

I thought the silo was that they all reported to Murphy - thus, each is in his own silo, no up-the-chain-of-command thing.

Organizational flow charts are always harder to understand than football play charts.

Here's what Murphy said back at the time.

“What this process showed me,” Murphy said, “within football we have silos, and we’ve had some breakdowns in communication. And one of the things that I really tried to do as I looked at it, what would be the best way to improve communication, improve collaboration among people within our football operations, and how do you knock down those silos? So this search process really identified some of those issues for me and was really very helpful.”
