  • Statistical verification of Packers upgrade at safety.

I found this very interesting, and satisfying:

    Last Four Seasons:

McKinney: 277 tackles, 21 missed tackles, 13.2 tackles per miss.
Savage: 245 tackles, 49 missed tackles, 5.0 tackles per miss.

Looks like a significant upgrade in tackling.

We've been bitching about missed tackles for a long time. McKinney looks like a big upgrade. Hopefully it was a player issue and not a Packers organizational problem.

Another thing would be where the tackles were made. Did he give up the first down before making it like Savage.

This is ordinarily true of a defender, but for safeties their role is pretty important. If they're a 7th or 8th man in a box, the *where* might actually matter, but if they're the last man before the end zone, the tackle itself is pretty much all that matters.

Savage was not one of Guter's better picks. I believe he gave up two fourths to Seattle to move up to get him, too. Compunding the bad pick.

I am also excited for Bullard. He looks like he'll be fun to watch.
