  • The contract negotiations are done!!!

    Finally, the deal is done!
We can all rest easy now.
    The details have been leaked.
It is a VERY team friendly deal.

Royce Newman likely improved his chances of making the Green Bay Packers' 53-man roster by agreeing to a revised contract ahead of the 2024 season. According to Over the Cap, Newman reduced his base salary to $1.25 million and converted $1 million into per-game roster bonuses, lowering his salary cap number to $2.37 million this season

Newman, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal, was set to make $3.1 million in 2024 after earning the NFL's proven performance escalator during his first three seasons.
Oh..... Not the contract you were hoping for? Sorry!

With Dillard struggling, I wonder if they'll try Morgan at right tackle until Tom gets back, and give Newman more reps at right guard along with Rhyan.

maybe Rolled Royce will do another re-negotiation midway through camp if things aren't going well - he could offer to sell peanuts at halftime, too. He wants to make the team!

Kind of a no-brainer that he'd redo his contract, GB would have more incentive to cut than keep a struggling backup making $3M.
Even with the new contract he's a longshot to make the roster - they have 3 OL draft picks plus Dillard, Donovan Jennings and L.Smith. OL competition is real.

Good fake out, for a second I thought this was a Jordan Love thread lol.

It would be interesting to know how these discussions went.

Newman has to realize that his chances are slim, even at his reduced contract. For him, it would be better to be released now than at final cutdown, to maybe work his way onto another roster during preseason.

On the other hand, the Packers know they could be left in a scramble if they lose two or three guards to injuries, so for the team it is best to keep his experience around as long as they can.

I wonder if there were any discussions along those lines.
