  • Love injury

so this should probably have its own thread

is this a type of injury where once the pain is bearable you can just slap a brace on it and go play? or is it something where you just have to let it heal all the way?

and do you risk further damage if he plays before its healed? can it completely tear if rushed back too soon?

It has to be more than pain management or they'd shoot themselves up and play again soon. They're saying 3-6 weeks which means he'll be hopefully back in 8 weeks, given Packers injuries history.

Do you risk a full ACL/MCL tear mid season ruining both this, next year and possibly a career by coming back too fast?

you have to get it to where it's almost near right. IF you come back early, not only do you risk further knee injury, I think if you are favoring the knee too much you open yourself up to other leg injuries (speaking from experience in my younger days when I was athletic) ....such as a hamstring

HERE is the bigger question; is our season just F'cked ?

I can't imagine our current backup winning games. I think I'd rather have Sean Clifford, or Ryan Tannehill.

But Gute is on such a hugh youth movement kick it doesn't seem like he wants veteran backups

They still have Clifford. Tanehill wants a starting role and lots of money. He was never a realistic option for us.

i remember the old days where guys would completely tear a knee ligament and just keep playing the year with a giant knee brace. i think o-linemen did that

the risk of further injury is what would worry me

the shit thing is, this was kind of our "all in" year

loves cap number is going up after this, and we're gonna have to start paying our young guys, or cut them loose

I’m kinda with Red. If he can play effectively then he should play regardless. He is getting paid to that level and the time to win is now maybe not in 5 years.

I disagree. I think next year is really "the year". All the receivers will still be under contract, and the defense will have a year of learning the system under their belt. Don't rush Love back and jeopardize him being 100% for the start of next year.

There was a report that Packers had reached out to Tannehill. But I think this is a better source:

                      Tom Pelissero
                      @TomPelissero

The #Packers have not reached out and are not expected to pursue any veteran quarterbacks, including Ryan Tannehill, per sources.

The team expects Jordan Love back on the sooner end of the initial 3-6 week timeline and are focused on preparing Malik Willis and Sean Clifford.

I’m guessing Clifford will be the more likely option since he at least knows the offense. Willis is more of a long term project.

I have to think so. Not only in terms of running the offense full-time, but also because it sounds like he's a project in need to lots of work with Tom Clements. Give the guy another week at least to figure out where the stadium is and whether he can find a place to rent a couch in Green Bay. Play Clifford and run that check-down offense and see if you can squeak by Indy.

It should be Willis. They will limit their gameplan to what he is comfortable with. His running ability will add a dimension that defenses will either have to respect (which could limit their aggressiveness) or give up yardage to. It can add a factor the offense will need.

Yep. Willis should and will start. Design the O around his talent. He has a monster arm. Run hard, deep shots, play action QB rollouts designed to stress the D with his running ability.

Win ugly. Pretty, don't care. Try and be 2-2 when Love takes the field again.
