How much cheaper would that really be once you account for moving Love's salary? Also, they can pay a huge salary regardless of whether they were to go crazy and trade Love.

Willis has been fantastic in limited action. Makes plays with his feet, has been smart with the ball, and seems to have the ability to sling it into tight windows.

I'm just not sure what he would look like over the course of a season vs coming in with limited tape.

Maybe the big difference is MLFs play calling... is he more creative when Willis is in?

I'm not taking moving Love into account. I think that is a bad read of Love's performance this year and a bad over-estimation of what Willis gives you in scouted looks as a full time starter.

Just as a stand alone way to improve the team for 3 years without blowing up the cap, best move is to sign Hafley to a record breaking deal if necessary to keep him around for the best years of Parsons/Love. They have the cash, he's good and doesn't hurt the cap. Helps it too, because you might not need expensive corners to play this defense.

You probably need better corners for the times you must play man, but that can be done with youth or cagey signings.

I think there's a significant risk that Willis is not able to maintain his performance as a full time starter. It's a gamble. If he's even close to Love and they get a significant boost to the talent for rest of the team, however, you could make the case there's a higher upside potential as a team. If you're pushing for a SB, maybe you roll the dice.

If Willis is probably gonna get low first string QB money, the Packers ought to shell out that much and keep him. We can always find the money somewhere else on the roster.

I hope Willis is amenable to negotiations. We've had him under contract for the past two seasons and we haven't come to terms with him for the 2026 season.

If his agent is competent, he's gonna tell Malik to shop himself around (and take the stupidest contract from the team that offers the most money based on watching a handful of SportCenter highlights) before renewing his apartment lease in north Wisconsin.

We absolutely could figure it out if he were to sign as a backup. But honestly, do you not think at least a couple teams out there won't offer him a chance to start? Consider this. He was drafted as a super talented guy who needed NFL seasoning. He got it and has done nothing but impress with us. Now that he is a more refined product with stellar on field performance NO ONE will give him a chance? It could happen becasue GMs are just people and people are stupid.

How many times over the years have we heard that blather? You can always do something with the cap - as I've said a dozen or more times, and it's always been true. I doubt he gets $15 million per year, but even that if structured right would be a helluva lot less against the cap. An accountant should know such things. APB does.

The bill always comes due. Just ask the Saints, who are still pushing salary into the future with a sub 500 team. Also remember that the Saints were APB’s favorite example of the cap not being real.

Packers have done this with Rodgers, Love, Parson, Gary and maybe Alexander. They don’t do it for backups.

Because the Saints are stupid. If you handle things right, nothing "comes due". It hasn't up to now for the Packers, and it ain't gonna in the future. As I recall, the Niners were supposedly in "cap hell" at some point too, and they kept right on winning. I'm sure there are other examples too, but of course, the usual suspects will dig up one of very few counter-examples.

Willis has a lot of motivation for tomorrow. He’s basically going to raise or lower his pay for the next few years by dint of what he puts on tape against the Ravens.

Sit Jacobs. Sit Tom. Sit Williams if he’s not ready. And then win anyway.

Personally, I like the thought of being the 7th seed and going into Chicago and spanking da Bears. Or going into Philly and putting a beat down on the Iggles.
