Yep. As I mentioned in another post, it probably only cost them 1 net point. If he takes the safety, they're probably down 9-7 at halftime instead of 13-10.I can't run no more

The offense seems like its still finding its way. Mostly I think the offensive line needs to settle down. Rasheed Walker - knock on wood - seems to be getting fewer penalties and playing better. Tom is usually solid, so I wonder if he was hurting on Sunday. If they can play better as a group, and I think they can, the rest will fall into place, although with Wicks it may be more the ball falling through his hands. What the heck? Is he thinking too much?"The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

None of these guys have proven to be impact OL players. That’s my point. Great, he drafts average starters in the 6th round. Compare our OL to the Lions and tell me how great a job Gute has done. Average starters don’t get it done in the NFL on the OL.Originally posted by Patler View PostFor that matter, Runyan was a good pick too. The Lions have probably the best offensive line in the NFL. Doesn't mean Gute can't evaluate OL talent. Lot of space between those 2 extremes.Originally posted by King Friday View PostNone of these guys have proven to be impact OL players. That’s my point. Still waiting to hear about the impact OL players he’s brought in. Don’t give me Tom or Runyan. I’m talking about guys who legitimately (not through green and gold glasses) can be Pro Bowl caliber players.
Madison - junk
Jenkins - above average, but average value for 2nd
Stepaniak - junk
Hanson - junk
Runyan - average, good value for 6th round
Van Lanen - junk
Newman - junk, poor value for 4th round
Myers - below average, awful value for 2nd round
Walker - above average, great value for 7th round
Tom - average, good value for 4th round
Rhyan - average, average value for 3rd round
So Gute nailed one pick, did well on a couple others, a lot of junk (to be fair, many of those were late round)
That isn’t exactly stellar over 6 drafts. Most GMs do better. It's such a GOOD feeling...13 TIME WORLD CHAMPIONS!!

re: DET, they spent R1 picks on Ragnow, Decker, and Sewell. DET and PHI have very good OL but they've invested highly in them.
Other teams have invested heavily in them and not gotten the returns they hoped for. (Looking at you, TEN - Radunz in R2, Skoronski & Latham in R1).
Finding above average starters on the OL is not something most GMs do well, especially in later rounds. I think Gute is better than most at it.
Swapping out Runyan for Rhyan hasn't hurt them much. Consider teams are giving OG's like Runyan $10M and Robert Hunt $20M a lot of money for meh performance.
I'm curious - how do you define an impact OL player? I don't think it's easy to identify and have the opportunity to draft one Larry Allen in 5 years, much less several of them.

I say again, the success we had in the run game was mostly right up the middle over Myers, Rhyan, and Jenkins. Most of the pass rush on Love came from the outside, NOT up the middle. Yet PFF pisses on Myers and Rhyan. Go figure. And some in here predictably follow along.
The PFF numbers make a little more sense on D, but it's flawed there to some extent there too. Stokes and Valentine played mostly a good game - not getting in the spot light is a good thing for a Corner.
Go with what you see, not what some half-assed "experts" claim. I wonder how much credence the coaching staff give to PFF. I bet not much. What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Despite everyone arguing with me when I said Tom was smallish when we drafted him he has put on some weight this off season. Not sure if that is affecting his play or not, just an observation. And yes, I am sure they still list him at 305, but I'd bet he is closer to 325 now.Originally posted by red View Postwhats going on with our o-line?
myers sucks, we all know that, but toms playing bad too? is he just surrounded by shit?
i say move tom to center, and forget about running to the right side
Let the Monk era begin....Myers blows. And Rhyan just isn't ever going to be very good. I am saddened that Morgan isn't getting snaps right now so he can hopefully get comfortable with the position swap. Its tough playing left side on the island since you were 14 to suddenly going right side inside. Was hoping he would have it by week 10, but he has to be on the field for that to happen.
Anyone miss Wyatt yet? Our pass rush is designed for interior penetration to push a QB to our collapsing ends. That contains a QB from escaping and running for 20 yards. When there is no penetration you just end up with a guy sitting in the pocket comfortably. The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary -- Vince Lombardi

I do go with what I see. I saw our RBs often meeting resistance in the backfield and doing their best to pick up 3-4 yards instead of losing yardage.Originally posted by texaspackerbacker View PostGo with what you see, not what some half-assed "experts" claim. PFF grades in a similar manner to team coaches. The Packers give no credence to PFF, but in terms of media, PFF is far more right than they are wrong. It's such a GOOD feeling...13 TIME WORLD CHAMPIONS!!

Not to mention the guard that got a nice contract and the many others still playing in the league. Morgan will be good somewhere in time, but they made a big ask of him by swapping sides and position. Monk probably will be a keeper too....remember, Jenkins sat for a bit as well (Tom too).Originally posted by Joemailman View PostYeah. Elgton Jenkins, Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker were terrible picks.
