A few dumbasses in here think Myers sucks. LaFleur and the staff apparently do not, and anybody with eyes and a brain watching the games knows that most good Packer running plays last year and this year have gone through the Center/Guard hole, and that there is very little pass rush through that area - most of it from the outside. What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

My eyes are a metric. My eyes say he is pushed back easily into the pocket and he can't get movement in the run game. The only thing he excels at is finding LBs in the open field to intercept. Since every coach has eyes they make sure to put someone on him at the line so he isn't able to do the only thing he can do.Originally posted by texaspackerbacker View PostThen fuck the "metrics" and go with what you see.The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary -- Vince Lombardi

Myers is inconsistent. Some really good plays and some turnstile plays. Because of that, he grades out as about average.
He's got some toughness, is smart, and very athletic. There are moments where I wonder if he'd be better at guard.
He's also been playing enough where he can help Love with protection calls, etc. There's more to being a C than snapping the ball and blocking. You need a guy who has some brains.
All that said, I agree with others who think he won't be back. I think Jacob Monk is the in-house replacement.
There's a part of me that wishes Gute had drafted Barton over Morgan, especially if they are going to play Morgan inside at G. Barton can play anywhere but is best at C/G and could have been an upgrade/replacement for Myers. Sure, some would be yelling about spending a R1 on a Center, which is fair.
Anyway, I don't hate Myers; I wish him the best. I just don't think he's been good enough and they can and should move on from him.

It's somewhere between stupid and just unproven to say that Myers won't be back. Runyan was decent, and they let him go, so who knows if re-signing him gets too expensive. There is zero indication that the coaching staff has the kind of irrational and idiotic negativity about Myers that some in here have. I don't know if that idiocy comes from swallowing media shit or what, but I say again, for the umpteenth time, last year and so far this season, the most successful running plays have gone right through the middle/right over Myers. Are people too damn dumb or blind to comprehend that? And pass blocking, where has the large majority of opponents' pass rush come from? From the outside, NOT up the middle. I've read some dumbass in here saying Myers gives ground on pass blocking, well yeah, that's what you do in pass blocking - seeing that as a bad thing is typically the kind of stupid crap several in here tend to spew. What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Myers has graded out as one of the 3 worst centers in the freaking league this season.
He was our lowest graded Olineman in run blocking Sunday.
There is a lot more criteria to judge Olineman than if a running play worked up the middle.
Myers is a poor center and has a number of issues that mean the Pack will come up with other solutions for the center position in the off season.
Gun Snap. Myers is below average with his gun snaps. He frequently tips the snap with his head snap just before centering the football.
Double teams He's a big clumsy bastard and will sometimes knock his teammate off the double team block
Penalties. WAY too many for a variety of reasons. One of his frequent crimes is being downfield on passes. This can really bum out the offense, these calls are really heartbreakers when the pass is negated by a centers stupid error. He gets some of these because (as some have noted) he is pretty effective at blocking at the second level, so he's champing at the bit to get out at the fill and LB's
Myers is one of the few negatives on Gute's record. He was in line in the draft to take uber Center Creed Humphrey. Instead he drafted the taller, but far less talented Myers. Creed is on his way to the HOF, while Myers is on his way out of town.
Quit calling people dumbasses. You aren't much in the way of player move prediction. Remember when you called posters dumbasses when they tried to tell you Rodgers was headed out of town?
Who was the dumbass in that one?

I've been saying this to my gameday crew for awhile. Barton is built like a guard, moves incredibly for a guard, and probably will be a 10 year starter easily. Morgan can excel at G or T I'm guessing, but he will play the position much different than Barton and I don't think he will ever be able to pull or hit the second level like Barton should be able to.Originally posted by run pMc View PostMyers is inconsistent. Sheeeesh, KYP, and to think I used to have a degree of respect for you, unlike most of these (substitute your own word if you don't want them called dumbasses).
All this crap about what he does bad and doesn't do good, you actually SEE that shit? Or just read about it from media pukes?
HOW do you get around the clear fact that most of the successful Packer running plays, both with Jones last year and this year with Jacobs are right up the gut - the Guard Center area, right over Myers? And HOW do you get around the clear fact that most of the pass rush against the Packers comes from the outside, very very seldom up the middle over Myers?
And Friday, as I said, they inexplicably cut Runyan, so I wouldn't put it past them to cut or trade Myers. I doubt it, but not enough to bet against it. LaFleur et al, though, have kept Myers first string through all the stupid whining by ya'all in here, so I strongly suspect that they do not have the same idiotic opinion as ya'all.
My opinion - also disagreed with by many of the same crowd in here - is that O Line in general is overrated in importance. Perhaps that's why Runyan didn't get re-signed, and I wouldn't rule out the idea of the same happening to Myers. Then we find somebody else cheap, and continue to march. Whatever. What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

I'm still waiting for any of ya'all Myers detractors to explain how it is that so much running success goes right through Myers, and so little of the opponents' pass rush comes up the middle over Myers.
Undoubtedly, many of the same people so stupidly negative about Myers were the same bunch who practically worshipped the old sacred cow, Bakhtiari - when we had so little success running outside and so much of the pass rush came right over him from the outside. Is it swallowing media shit? Or are ya'll just plain blind? What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?
