  • Jets Fire Saleh

The New York Jets have fired coach Robert Saleh after starting the season 2-3, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Saleh, who was hired by the Jets in 2021, has a 20-36 record as the team's head coach.

Saleh's firing marks the first time in owner Woody Johnson's 25-year tenure that he has fired a coach in the middle of the season.

The Jets entered the 2024 season with high expectations, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers returning from an Achilles injury that had derailed his 2023 season after just four plays, but they have struggled on offense.

He's probably better off. Will Hackett be the interim HC? I doubt it.

Their former DC is supposedly the new interim.

So glad that Rodgers is gone.

Madness. There are a lot of problems with the Jets but I'm not sure Saleh is one of them. Not one of the biggest problems, anyway.
I want to say that he should absolutely come to GB as an "analyst" for Hafley, although I think it's unlikely since that might make Hafley look over his shoulder and make things weird with the coaching staff. Dude is a very good defensive mind at a minimum and he will get several interviews to be a DC next year if he wants them.

Firing the coach when you're essentially one game out of first and facing the leader (Bills) next is a weird look. I suppose they have the bye to transition and prep, but still... feels like an overreaction. I'd fire Hackett before firing Saleh. The defense is usually not the problem with this team.

So the story is Saleh is going to regroup and take a vacation with his family and get ready for 2025 DC interviews. He's still getting paid by Woody Johnson, so there's no rush to get back into coaching.
Plus, he probably needs to take a long mental break after dealing with Rodgers lol

The next logical step is to make Jets owner Woody Johnson run naked down 42nd street while New Yorkers throw rotting vegetables at him.

He's the architect of all this goofy bullshit.

              wow

his D wasn't the one losing the games

i'm pretty sure rodgers, hackett, cobb, lazard and delvin cook were all forced on him

i'd sign him up in a second to be our DC even if our current one doesn't need replacing

                Just shocking news to me.

If I am a coach I am not going to the Jets without a huge number and an additional buyout of the contract if I get terminated early.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

Well, they're stuck with Rodgers, which means they're stuck with Hackett, most likely. And stuck with Lazard and his contract. So you fire the one guy you can fire.

It's inadvertently an admission that the Aaron Rodgers experiment has gone off the rails.

Some rumors he had a flag on that Jets didn’t agree with too. Timing and walking him out w/ security are pretty weird imo

Reports are that Saleh was considering firing Hackett. Instead Saleh got fired. I'm not sayin'. I'm just sayin'...

Didn’t seem like ARodg played GM on this one based on Woody’s comments today.

Had a flag on? What do you mean?

Hard to believe Rodgers had no influence here if the head coach is canned but the offensive coordinator overseeing the shitshow that is the Jets’ offense keeps his job….

He is of Lebanese origin. He would sometimes wear a Lebanese flag patch on his sleeve. Other coaches have done the same thing. The NFL encourages it.

As we continue to prioritize the NFL's growth globally, we're proud to have our players and coaches honor their backgrounds through the NFL Heritage Program. This initiative allows us to celebrate the heritage, families and cultures that make up the fabric of the League, and truly showcases the growing global reach and impact of the sport of football and the NFL.

Other players and coaches who have taken part in the wearing of a sticker or patch include former head coach Bill Belichick (Croatia), quarterback Kyler Murray (South Korea), tight end Dalton Kincaid (Canada), wide receiver DJ Moore (Jamaica), wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (Germany) and Giants head coach Brian Daboll (Canada).

                              Oops, sorry.
Just rushing through the threads and thought this was a "Fire Saleh" thread, as maybe the Packers had hired him.
                              My bad.
