pat macaffe had chuck pagano on and said this actually happens more then we know

this is buddies helping buddies, like someone else just said

maybe lafleau shows saleh some offensive stuff while saleh is scouting other teams and telling lefluer how to attack them

and the jets are paying him to do it

i see no downside to this at all. and i love it

and if hafly does start to look over his shoulder and cracks, then we already have one of the top, if not the TOP DC in the NFL in the building

really, this could be the start of a whole new position, if it doesn't exist already

defensive mind that scouts for the offense and shows them how to attack that D. all while the d-cord is still fully focused on his side of the ball

Regardless of the standard being low, this is easily post of the year by you. Some type of actuary for offense would be beneficial.

yeah he's still getting paid by Woody Johnson, so he can do what he wants. A lot of coaches that get fired take unpaid "consulting" or "analyst" jobs with another team they have connections with. Keeps them in the game, they don't have to work crazy hours, and they're still making dough.
GB's brought people in a few times recently: Butch Berry, Aubrey Pleasant, etc.

No way Saleh coaches for another team this year, he's on paid vacation, and this offseason he'll have his pick of teams to interview.

Bringing him in to give the offense pointers is a good idea. He's a smart guy and MLF trusts him, so he can give MLF plenty of honest feedback on the team that would be very helpful. Self scouting at its best.

As for Hafley, he just had his best game, so maybe this is the best time to bring Saleh in. He shouldn't be looking over his shoulder, and based on MLF's comments he won't have to. Hafley coached with Saleh, so they know each other also. I highly doubt there would be territorial pissing happening in the building. That said, if I'm Hafley and Saleh points something out, I'd at least listen.

I bet Saleh and MLF are trading some "what a weirdo" stories about their mutual former QB.

In McCarthy's last few seasons in GB, during the bye weeks he had the D coaching staff analyze film of the Packer offense and offer criticisms and suggestions; and the O coaching staff do the same for the Packer defense. When he started it, he said they found it extremely enlightening. Seems that the coaches are so consumed by their regular responsibilities that they don't look at the other half of the team after training camp.

I watched the video of MLF giving game balls out in the lockerroom after the last game, and I was a bit surprised when he referenced (if I recall correctly) the offense as "us" and the defense as "you." Or words to that effect. The NFL seems very compartmentalized that way.

Just one more thought on this. Saleh got fired because he couldn't get the offense right. Its possible he is picking MiLFs brain as well so he is better equipped to hire an OC when he gets another shot at it.

Remember Saleh basically recommended Halfly for the job and they are all friends (although MiLF and Saleh were college roomies so its another level). I don't think anyone is jealous or envious here. All 3 have been/want to again be head coaches. This arrangement puts them all in the best position to succeed. There is good nepotism and bad nepotism in the world. The good kind is when talented people hire people they know well to help the overall success. The other kind is when petty small people hire like minded people so they can heae how smart they are and how dumb others are. I think we have the good kind here.

LaFleur and Saleh coached together many many years ago in 2004 at the college level. Became best friends. Saleh reportedly recommended our current DC who is also friends with Saleh.

I know it's unlikely, but let's say our defense really excels and our DC gets a head job. Guess who is primed to step in ? Great move
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

                    True.
Counterpoint: having your best friend as your boss in a high stress job might not be good for the friendship... or the locker dynamics if the D lays an egg.

All the same, Saleh will get a shot in 2025 at coaching, either as a DC or HC. I wouldn't mind if he were in GB.

Getting Saleh on board has already paid a HUGE reward.

LaFleur said the pass play to Reed that set up the game winning FG was originally suggested by Saleh last Monday after reviewing the Jags D. It was discussed but not included in the game plan. During the game, Vrabel looked at pictures and saw that it would be open because of the way the Jags played the setup play for it. They added the play on the sidelines and had never even practiced it.

Playoffs? Are you fucking kidding me, playoffs?

Fun fact: Mora got canned by the Asses of Indianapolis for refusing to can his BFF, Vic Fangio. Yes, that Fangio y’all had a hard on for.

Nepotism typically produces shit results in the NFL, although the Pussycats of Kentucky woulda won a Super Bowl by now had that coach there hired his FIL, Mike Sherman.

Nepotism is how you got the job flipping burgers from your uncle Biff. In the NFL, with the stakes so high, I doubt you’re gonna put your friend in there if he isn’t any good. Don’t forget team chemistry is also a big thing so having people you know and that you can work with to create a good environment is beneficial.

Now get my burger that cost more than you make in hour cooked and don’t be spitting on anything cause I’m watching your filthy ass.

Nepotism doesn't require hiring someone you think will do a bad job. You just need to favor them somewhat. It exists everywhere, including the NFL.

Hiring a friend or relative, however, is not nepotism automatically.
