  • Under-reaction thread.

Yeah, the loss was disappointing. (Philly was the #2 seed and favored, BTW. With a high powered offense and a heinous defense, yet a win was within reach.)

Yeah, the O played poorly, Love in particular.

    BUT.

There's a lot of reason to be optimistic moving forward:

    This team is young.

The defense, if they continue to improve is going to be gnarly next year.

    Fuck-tons of cap space.

Lots of talent in key positions.

3 rookies started on the defense. They weren't just marginal players either. They were better than the vets who would play when they were out. For the offense, the offseason will be all about marrying the power running game to the passing attack. They never really figured that out this year.

Gute came up STRONG in FA last season.

How about a solid pass rusher or a cover corner in FA this off season?

I know it's fantasy-land but either Max Crosby or Miles Garrett would be great additions.

            Ok I will
Josh Sweat - 12% pressure rate this year and is still under 30.
Dante Fowler - 12% pressure rate 31 years old
Dayo Odeyingbo - 12 sacks in 2023, 11% pressure rate this year.

            CBs
            Carlton Davis - Detroit
            DJ Reed - Jets
            Brandon Stephens - Baltimore
            Byron Murphy - Minnesota
            Kristian Fulton - Chargers

I'm not sure any of those players will make it to FA, or if they are the type of players Gute is looking for. (Davis is old, Reed is Jaire size or smaller, for example)
Agree they need help at pass rush and CB though and wouldn't be surprised if they use FA.

Also could see them nibbling around for a WR like Josh Palmer (LAC) or someone to run 9 routes like DJ Chark.

The only underreaction this Sunday was Love not getting fired up even once for the playoff game. He looked gone or lost before the first snap. The camera caught in full emo mode when eagles scored the first TD. It was a look of, oh shit!!

Yeah. About that. He might not ever be a vocal leader, I don't think that's his style. Based on what little I've seen and know about the kid, it appears he's going to have to be a quiet, lead by example type and let Jacobs, Kraft and other be the loud voices in the room.

But the apparent lack of fire in his belly is concerning. But we really don't know. We are trying to piece together a puzzle where we have precious little information.

I do wonder what the toll of all the injuries were taking on his performance.

I'm not sour on the kid yet. I'll wait to see how he does next season.

He wasn’t hurt or at least not much where it was visible so he needed to play. When LaPew straight up says it at the podium then it is a bigger problem than we think. I never minded Rodgers getting mad at his teammates the issue was the belittling. Is Love too much friends with everyone added with him not being a vocal guy? To hell with words even his body language was fuked up. Not standing proud, not showing emotion. To hell with mechanics he might need a tune up between the ears.

He takes a lot of risks already. I don't want him more fired up.

I think Love doesn't take risks, it wasn't a risk the pass he threw to Baun, he just either didn't see him, or he got radar lock and threw it anyways. It wasn't like he was trying to throw a side arm missile twister into a tight window. The Int at the end of the half against the Rams was pathetic, certainly not a risk. He threw that ball out of panic.

Love doesn't play with emotion, and that really affects the way the fans in Green Bay see him. Favre and Rodgers both played with a lot of emotion and energy. I don't believe it but it does seem to appear that Love is either completely overwhelmed at times or it is like he is going through the motions. He is still young the game might not have completely slowed down for him yet.

Pat Kirwin on NFL radio says you need 30 starts to find out who your QB really is. I think Love has now had 32 starts.

Maybe last year's giant contract extension was too early. I am not sure, but Love didn't progress the way I hoped he would.

He really seems to lock into 1 WR when he is pressured/scrambling. Causing him not to see other players both offense and defense that can affect the play.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

He especially seems inclined to heave a long, low percentage pass downfield when pressured. Would like to see him focus on locating guys who may be breaking open in the 10-15 yard range.

or on Sunday when he had a lane to run and he basically threw it behind himself to the RB on the sideline for a very shaky incompletion. Just plays that don't make any sense, that pass should have never ben contemplated much less attempted. Injuries do that to players. He is banged up with the elbow thing, running with the ball is a threat to his health.
