Yeah, I liked the idea of Shields too before it became obvious, and I have to confess to being a Janis fan too. I still think if the chips had fallen right, he coulda been a good one. There's a lot of other pluses and minuses over the decades. I'll let the detractors bring up any of those minuses I praised if anybody cares.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Sam Shields working out the way he did has me really interested in the Bo Melton situation. Its a monster hill to climb, but having a brother who plays the position has to help a little bit. Can he actually get on the field for 100 plays on defense this year without costing us games? Could he spend an offseason training for it and be a solid backup next year? Love the guys attitude and all, and I know its a longshot, but damn, you gotta cheer for him as a packer fan.

Lots of us liked the potential of Janis, but he never put it together. Some of that may have been in dealing with all of Rodgers' checks, but he couldn't stick with Clevland in 2018 after the Packers cut him.

We all have pluses and minuses. I was right about wanting the Packers to get Merciless, although Houston snatched him one pick before ours. I was wrong in thinking Nick Collins wasn't smart enough to play safety. At least we didn't spend years saying how wonderful Joey Harrington was.

Vampire boob technique actually works, but it doesn't create any support structure, so it's pure sag. Shame.

Sam had a season playing DB in college before coming to the Packers. I have no problems cheering for Melton, and I hope he can make the transition. But I'm not going to hold my breath. A position change this late is a desperation move, but if he can stick based on ST, maybe he can learn the position.

Agree 100%. I don't see it as "desperate" because I don't think he wants to do it, but the team wants him to add value and are pushing it because CB matches his skills more than WR does. Melton just turned 26 so if he can be like Sam, but with a couple advantages (not having to learn how the NFL and camps work, more advanced body) he could be useful as a DB next season....IF he commits to it. That could set him up for a modest 3 year deal where he could be a solid team mate and then someone else could overpay him for his post 30 years. As a WR he will never be more than a #3 on a weak team and that's probably stretching it. He has very little to lose since he won't make this roster just on his WR/ST abilities.
