He was universally regarded as the top pick and I'm betting every GM looked at him.

I don't think that's true. There was plenty of discussion about whether he'd translate his game to the pro game, plenty of discussion about whether he was too sensitive or too much of a prima donna to take to coaching. Yes, he'd have been a top ten pick - because of the importance of the QB position - but he could've slid down that draft board had the Bears not taken him. Taking Williams was a risk, a big risk, and the Bears took that risk. So far, not so good. Who wouldn't rather have Daniels or Maye? Or maybe even Bo Nix.

That's the problem. He was regarded as the top pick therefore Poles was afraid to scrutinize him too much for fear of getting roasted in the press. So the Bears fucked up their QB pick again. I'll try to find some sympathy for them ... nope fresh out.

Williams may have been the consensus #1 going into the 2023 season. But by the end of the season, there were some, a minority, who felt Daniels was better.

Until he met the 2025 Packers defense that is. I was concerned he might run wild and do all kinds Awesome shit tonight. But honestly, he’s lucky to have walked away uninjured.
