  • So, ... which kicker do you keep????

McManus will recover soon, but is 34 years old. He is a proven, high-quality kicker, and should be good for this and the next few years anyway.

But my gosh, how can you cut the 26-year-old Havrisik?

    Trade McManus?

Yeah. This is a developing question.

I thought all through those bad times when we seemingly couldn't find a kicker to save our ass, that it shouldn't be that tough. There are a helluva lot of other teams that bring in nobodies who perform well.

My thought about Havrisik was maybe he was accurate but not a very strong leg. The 61 yarder seems to say different, though.

I don't recall, did McManus get a big bonus in his probably too big contract? I wonder if there has been any thoughts that maybe the blocked field goal and was at least partly because he was a little slow getting it kicked.

I really doubt we could get much at all in trade for either, mainly because it just ain't that hard to find a kicker these days.

Hav has a big leg but he's not accurate enough. He's bounced around on practice squads and the UFL because of it. Sure, he's the feel good story and riding high now, but to me it's not even remotely close. I doubt they could get anything in a trade.

I heard that the reason the plans couldn’t leave was due to McManus getting his weewee stuck in a peephole. kidding mi amigos. Just like the dog pound everyone wants the puppies. Take the young guy.

You're going to cut one of them, so I doubt anyone trades for either of them. And if you cut McAnus, I don't think it'd save the team much money. But I don't know, and don't know what the right move is. One poster said Havrisak was too inaccurate and that's why he's bounced around. But sometimes kickers take time to develop, and maybe he's coming into his own. Either way, Havrisak really is the Barney Fuckdoggle of the season. Without him hitting the kicks he has, the Packers might be 2-3-1.

Sure, anything is possible. What's more likely, 1) he's had multiple chances over several years and couldn't figure it out, but the Packers special teams coaches worked their magic and fixed him in a week; or 2) he is on a good streak but will regress to the mean over the rest of the season?

Let me ask it another way. One 40 yard field goal puts the Packers through to the Superbowl. Who did you pick to kick it?

I would keep McManus because of his long track record and his performance last year in GB.

I don't really know if anyone needs a kicker, but if they do, giving up a 7th round pick is certainly reasonable, rather than risking succeeding with a waiver claim. The Packers could hang on to both for a while too, depending on their injury situation. If they are otherwise fairly healthy, the last couple roster spots aren't that valuable. It's not all that uncommon for a team to carry a couple kickers, punters or long snappers for a while. A 7th might entice them to let one go.

It's not unusual for a college kicker to take a while to settle into the NFL environment and get the right opportunity to succeed long term. Havrisik might be one of those.

I love the Cinderella story of Hav's, but the sample size is just too small, IMHO.

                But what a sample......

I have noticed he doesn’t seem to have a feel for kickoffs - he boomed the last one into the end zone and the Cards started from the 35 as a result.

If this is an “all in” kind of year, you would definitely keep McManus.

Patler makes a good point: how crucial are those last two roster spots anyway? Would losing Ben Sims be the reason the season goes down the drain? You could keep both kickers, I suppose.

I am also waiting and hoping for the day the Packers set up for a FG attempt but Whelan pulls a Lucy and takes off for a first down or a touchdown. He was an Irish rugby player after all. If the special teams are going to suck, at least have some fun along the way! Or have him throw a wobbly-ass pass to a wide open Tucker Kraft!

I like the idea of keeping both. Haven't we had several weeks with just 51 instead of 53 on the roster anyway?

That is true. It’s believed they’re holding those spots for Watson and Monk, but your point is still valid.

They could possibly get a conditional 7th round pick.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

I just wonder if McManus will be kicking this weekend.
