LaFleur seemingly does better as a playcaller and coach when forced by adversity. I sure would like for this to be the case and we see some much needed innovation on offense.

It is for this reason I have high hopes. I also have low expectations.

I was so disgusted by the game and of course Kraft's injury that I didn't post or even read posts for a couple days. I read most of what I missed this morning. One thing that surprised me was little or no talk of firing LaFleur or Gutekunst. There had been some of that in past weeks, and I completely dismissed it then. My primary thought, though during and immediately after the game was, damn LaFleur is screwing up a lot. Maybe he does need to go. And as for Gutekunst, the stuff he gets praised for may not be as good as we all thought (I'm mainly thinking of the Parsons trade, maybe Jacobs too, maybe Golden too, maybe bringing in Hafley), and the stuff he gets criticized for really sticks out like a sore thumb when things get bad - lousy pass D, mediocre run D, "warning track" pass rush, stinking O Line, etc.

But what the hell, we're 5-2-1, as crappy as things have looked ever since week 1, so it still could be a good season.

Beat the Eagles and all the bad is forgot and forgiven. Lose again, and it's sort of a trend, a damn shitty trend.

Tex had a nice run with the GameDay thread, although his starter posts are boring as hell. No harmless personal info at all from Tex. Someone else, minus the Mailman, needs to pick up the slack this week.

I reckon, ain’t nobody better to start the GameDay thread against the Racisto Italianos than our resident Italiano, Fosco.

Eagles are so toast. I only hope Jaire gets in the game and gives up about 200 yards to Doubs.

                Asante Samuel?

                https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/g...date-green-bay

According to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, the Green Bay Packers remain interested in signing free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., one of the top free agents in last spring’s class who has yet to sign with a team. Samuel has recently been cleared after undergoing a spine fusion this offseason, after playing just four games for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024.

Based on sources I’ve talked to, here’s the scenario. The Packers wanted to have Samuel on a visit, prior to him being cleared for action, in an effort to recruit him. Samuel’s camp told Green Bay that any visit would have to wait until after the trade deadline, as Samuel is hoping to land with a team where he can start immediately, so that he can build back his on-field reputation in time for the 2026 free agent market. Remember, Samuel is coming off his rookie contract, so his career earnings are $7.2 million at the moment. His next multi-year deal will likely be where he receives the most money in his NFL career, if all goes well in 2025.

Since the Packers — and others — were told to wait, Green Bay didn’t make a move at the trade deadline for a cornerback, despite Nate Hobbs going down with an injury. Currently, Green Bay only has two healthy cornerbacks on the team who have ever played NFL regular-season snaps on defense: Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine.

OK, have had a couple days to get heart beat and temperature back close to normal.

IMHO, everyone wearing a “C” on their jersey needs to stand up, take accountability, and demand the same from all. And then go prove it.

By now, it’s safe to say that the German Shepherd digs white tight ends. Hick-hop TE, Tuck Kraft, gets hurt, Sims gets released, and German Shepherd replaces them with a couple of whites.

This Packer TE room remains whiter than a Tony O’Day family reunion.

Justis Mosqueda at ACME (https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/g...date-green-bay) talks a bit about whether signing Samuel would upset the CB room, as somebody out of Samuel, Nixon, Valentine, and Hobbs would have to sit. The team is still trying to make Hobbs an outside corner, Nixon hasn't played the slot in a year, and Valentine and Samuel are outside corners. Mosqueda also mentions the question of benching a guy you just spent a ton of money on (Hobbs).

But Nixon's a penalty machine, Hobbs has been hurt and awful, and the team doesn't seem to like or trust Valentine for some reason (or maybe they just want to justify Hobbs's contract by playing him over Valentine, or maybe the don't think Valentine tackles well enough). In any case, the cb room has been pretty lousy overall, so fuggem if they get upset over bringing in Samuel and playing him.

Samuel is out there and apparently has been cleared to play - and wants to start. Do it, Guter. Try to make up for your whiff on Hobbs.

I'm guessing here - but it'll probably take far more than a Whyle before the Packers can replicate Hover Kraft's production.

Samuel would be interesting, but I wonder how long it would take for him to be ready to contribute much. He hasn't practiced, and hasn't played football in over a year.

I just saw a video on YouTube about Samuel. He used to be damn good and is just 26 years old. He's coming off spinal fusion surgery. Admittedly, I don't know much about the effects this type of surgery, but it makes sense that it would reduce a persons mobility - what they call "twitchiness" in rundowns on players' abilities. I understand this kind of surgery tends to be fairly sturdy/not likely to result in a re-injury in the same area. If there doesn't seem to be much reduction of his ability, they should sign him on an incentive-laden contract.

What we have at Corner is basically crap. Carrington Valentine is mediocre, and it's downhill from there. So it wouldn't take much to be an upgrade.

Asante strengthens a weak room. You don't worry about egos, you sign him if you can land him for the right price. He isn't great in run support, but we need him if he can return to form.

Edit: Ya know how the other guys can stop us from signing Samuel.....do their fricking jobs better.
