  • How does GREEN BAY....GET THINGS RIGHT ??????

Such a loaded question. Last week on an interview with Dan Campbell he noted regardless of their record, we're not playing that well on offense and we need to GET THINGS RIGHT....aka...play our game so we look good and like we are moving forward.

Yall, know I bleed Red and White in football and basketball. I stood up for FICKELL as long as I could. But game after game last year, and then we carry over to this year, losing nearly every week to the point spread, and just NOT looking good, it because clear to me we are FAR away.

Onward to our Packers. There are some PAINFULLY OBVIOUS THINGS WRONG

    1. Gutebag's master plan for free agency and our OL has failed miserably. We gave Banks big money and his play hasn't supported even half his salary. We took a Pro Bowl OG and plugged him into center where he has not been nearly as effective. And to boot, last year we used a 1st round draft pick on a guy who we thought could play multiple positions, and he just can't. As a result, a pretty decent OL has been pretty bad this year.

    2. As a result of #1, our running game, so far has completely sucked. Jacobs never gets in the rhythm we saw last year, and to put it nicely we are incredibly inconsistent. And the dam shotgun, cannot be, IMO, good for Josh Jacobs but we keep using that set over and over.

    3. Last year we seemed to run to set up the pass. This year, with no run, we have nothing set up the pass. Two years ago, when the offense was struggling, Flower answered a question on our passing game and he indicated they are just going to need to let it rip. WILDE asked the same question last week about letting it rup, and Flower completely dodged the question.

    4. It's clear Flower has lost some confidence in Jordan Love, and who can blame him. He averages out one idiotic play per game, he doesn't seem to have the ability to change a call at the line of scrimmage, and he can't improvise nearly as well as we've been used to watching in the past. To make matters worse, as a whole, our WR's sometimes are challenged to get open, and when the second option does get open, Love often doesn't see it.

I'm NOT even going to coaching, cause we seem stuck.

I've said over and over for the past couple years that I think we have a really good OL coach as our offensive coordinator, but IMO he's not a good offensitive coordinator. I'm STILL THERE.

But focusing on this year (and I might have an idea or two, WHAT SUGGESTIONS would you have to the Flower, to GET THINGS RIGHT ??????

    OK RATS......FULL PERMISSION...........SUGGESTIONS

    LET IT RIP !!!!!!!!!!!

It's a championship caliber defense with an offense that sputters and sputters and is stuck, doing the same things, it seems, over and over - except on fourth down, where there's no rhyme or reason. Let's run Jacobs on first down. Let's run Jacobs on second down. Let's pass on third down. Let's go for it on fourth down, if it's fourth-and-nine from our own 45. But let's punt if it's fourth-and-two from the opponent's 47.

This is on LeFleur. He's the architect of this offense; he's the one who's got to adapt.

In a previous life, I coached freshman basketball in Maryland. The varsity coach there, Dave Miller, was a great coach - won a state championship with what was frankly not even close to the most talented team in the tournament. What he taught me (it was new to me at the time) was that you've got to adapt your system to the talent you have. You can't say "This is the offense I run, dammit," and try shoving square pegs into round holes. You design your offense and your defense around what your players can do. That's old hat now, but as I said, at the time it was a bit of a revelation to me, coming from a state where the most successful college football coach was Bo Schembecler, who just ran the ball all the time, even when he had Anthony Carter on his team at wide receiver.

So LeFleur has to quit seeing his team the way he seems to have envisioned it early on in the season. He's got to acknowledge that the power run blocking isn't very powerful, and so he either needs to run different running plays or put other players in to help - such as Chris Brooks, who can help block. Or maybe start seeing this as a pass-first team.

Here's an example of not adapting to the talent at hand: receivers injured left and right, so LeFleur brings Bo Melton back over from the defensive side of the ball, and suddenly the guy is getting snaps as a wide receiver while Malik Heath sits on the bench. Why? I'm thinking it's because The Flower wanted a speedy fast guy because that's what was required for the scheme/plays he wanted to run. But Melton hasn't played receiver in a while; he clearly did not play well. All the while, the guy that has been playing at receiver, and can block and is not terrible at catching the ball, sat on the bench.

It's on The Flower to evaluate - himself, not just the team. This stretch will show us if he's still that innovative thinker he was when he came, or if he's calcifying into MM 2.0.

Given the way the offense had been playing, not sure you can punt there. You need as many chances as possible to get close to scoring range. I don't mind going on it on 4th and forever there.

The defense was literally the only thing holding together at that point and the offense needed to take that chance and pray the D could hold (or the Eagles do something dumb) if it didn't work. The Eagles were in a prevent and that was the time.

I think the middle pressure has undone Love to a degree. Last year it showed as a problem and has gotten worse against good teams. He clearly doesn't like it unless he has a ready check down and at least 2 of those were batted back in his face and on another Jacobs inexplicably turned toward the defender. I don't think the problem starts here though given the run game coming apart and taking the pass game with it, the answer isn't here either unless you want to start Willis and go one read then QB run for an offense. When the Eagles went prevent, suddenly the pass game opens up and part of that was Love taking deeper drops and waiting for players to get open.

The obvious place to start is to remake the offensive line. They need to get better on pass blocking in the interior no matter who has to move in there. The run game and the development for next year will need to wait.

Jacobs, despite the run game trouble, cannot be the 3rd down back in passing situations. I know he is in there to precent the D from teeing off and having to at least consider the run, but its not working when they clearly must pass.

I was trying to say - not very successfully, it seems - that LeFleur has made some mystifying fourth down decisions this year.

It doesn't matter how innovative MLF calls the game (though he needs to improve), the OL has to get better. It's very far from playoff caliber. .... that's a matter of coaching as much as players.

My bad. Yes, I think he can make some baffling decisions sometimes because he is overly cautious and other times because he gets emotional.

I'd wish the coach would clue everyone in on the guiding principle and the why. Some coaches who object to aggressiveness on 4th down often point to deflating their team or somehow indicating not trusting their defense.

If you explained how you made the decisions you do beforehand, no one would have the wild swings of emotion that come from surprises.

Gute's job is to restock the offense which will compete with having to losing some players on defense given the cap. I believe the talent fall off on offense had sped up. The D at least plays at times like it has the talent on hand.

Watson and Jacobs are the only guys making hay and turning in plays (occasionally Wilson and would also be Doubs if he could hang on to more).
