Parsons actually got home a few times today despite being held virtually every time.
Devante Wyatt made a lot of great tackles, but none bigger than the one he made standing on the sideline and taking out Nixon.
Love of course, Wilson of course, Watson of course - he seems to be doing a lot of what Kraft woulda been doing, also Wicks and Doubs.
Poor ol' Bisaccia has gotten a lot of criticism including from me, but the Packer special teams were pretty studly today.
The D in general was pretty good, but McDuffie (who I didn't expect to be good) had a good game, way better than Quay Walker usually plays.
Either our O Line was better than usual, or else the Vikings D was pretty bad against the run, hard to tell which.
No real duds, but LaFleur's play calling comes close. People used to criticize McCarthy (Mike) for playing not to lose - resulting in what? not losing. That was LaFleur today - running seemingly too much on early downs, being way too cautious on 4th and short, etc., which resulted in not losing.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?
STUD:
The Entire Second Half Defense
Vikings with 4 yards on 15 plays in second half
Okay, here I go: a few things to say.
First, agree on that defense as a stud. Let's hope Nixon's injury isn't too serious. But the defense, and 'specially Parsons - wow.
And because it's so good, The Flower is nestling into trying to run, run, and run the ball down the other team's throat. I kept thinking during this game that the fucker's channeling Bo Schembecler. And I do NOT mean that as a compliment. Bo would chew through the weak Big Ten until Ohio State, win some and lose some of those, and when he won, he'd go out to the Rose Bowl and his teams would get their asses beat by the west coast Pac 10 teams who utilized the forward pass. Yet Bo never changed, never adapted.
That's how it feels here. The Flower is determined to be a running team, and it worked today (more on that in a second). But how is that going to help this team against the Rams, who I think are the class of the NFC? Why isn't he using his supposed offensive innovativeness to figure out how to utilize the talent he has to the best of its ability? Which is to say, Jordan Love, Christian Watson, Luke Musgrave, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, his first-round receiver Matthew Golden, and so on and so on?
As I recall, there were at leat three situations that were third-and-three-or-less, and on all three, he ran the ball. Now, on the last one, the Pack was up 20 - 6 with less than I think eight minutes remaining, so strategically that made some sense. Make it a three-score game with time a-ticking and make JJ McCarthy beat you. So I'll give him that one. Yet on the other two, and on so, so many first and second downs, The Flower ran straight into run blitzes because Minny knew that The Flower was calling runs. It's his obsession. It gives him a Woody Hayes. And so Wilson or Brooks got stuffed, and you end up with those low-possession games. And it worked today. But how is that going to work in the playoffs, when the other team's QB is not Jameis Winston or JJ McCarthy? Is play action anathema to LeFleur? I get that the pass blocking has not been great, but neither has the run blocking. I just don't think it's a recipe for a championship. It's a recipe for getting into the playoffs and getting knocked out in the first round. I don't care how good the defense is, you're not utilizing your offensive talent. You're not figuring out how to create a cohesive passing game, something dynamic. Which would, of course, open up running lanes . . .
But the sword cuts both ways. Listening to the Giants/Lions today, the Giants had the ball and got down to the Lion three yard line with two minutes or so left. Kafka, who was having an existential crisis, decided NOT to kick the FG and go for the touchdown on fourth-and-goal, after throwing (incomplete) on second-and-goal from the three, and running into the teeth of the Lion defense on third down. The team turned the ball over on downs, the Loins went downfield and barely got a 58 yard FG to tie it, and won in overtime. Kafka goes for the FG and suddenly the Loins are at the Giants' 41 with fourth-and-ten and less than a minute on the clock with no timeouts, and need a TD to win. So in that case, NOT being conservative cost the Giants. Though I understand that they're a 2- 9 team so circumstances are different.
The Flower did what he needed to get the win. That's a lot better than last year's two games against the Vikings, yet I think he's not helping this team get to a championship level. He's not developing the offense.
Yet they won. And I'm bitching. So there you go.

Dud - The one announcer (Not Olsen) that said Parsons was ejected. It happened right after Gary hit McCarthy and McDuffie gets the INT. He said something to the effect; "Gary benefited from the ejection of Parsons from the field."
I was like, WOA!!! When was Parsons ejected! Poor choice of words there, but had me scratching my head, rewinding a couple times to see if I heard it right and checking all over the interwebs to see if Parsons was ejected.

Daniel Whelan - Averaged 47.5 per punt with 3 inside 20. Helped cause huge turnover.
Brandon McNamus - When a Packers kicker makes all his kicks, he's a stud.

Kidding aside, Vikings need to sit him or his psyche is going to be destroyed.
All due respect to Ras, I hope that he psyche is destroyed. Vikes in cap hell going forward and a QB who's not developing? As a Packer fan, ya gotta love that. Keep it going!
Sorry, Ras.
