RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Friday that he is "really optimistic" Sam Darnold will play Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers despite a new oblique injury, echoing what the Pro Bowl quarterback said a day earlier.

But in his final comments of the week before the Seahawks' divisional round playoff game against their NFC West rival, Macdonald left open the possibility that the injury could take a turn either before or after the 8 p.m. ET kickoff.

The Seahawks listed Darnold as questionable Friday after he left practice earlier in the day when he felt something in his left side. He told reporters roughly two hours later that he expects to play.

"Talking about Sam, I heard what he said yesterday to you guys; I see it the same way," Macdonald told reporters Friday. "We're listing him as questionable. Really optimistic he's going to be able to play. Right now we're going through all the protocol ... just out of caution to make sure we're ready to go. We'll test it out tomorrow and kind of make the final decision, but again, we're optimistic he's going to play.

"If he doesn't, or at some point he doesn't, then [Drew Lock is] ready to go, and that's why Drew's here. He's doing a great job."

Seems worse. No red devil Mahomes and still can’t get to the SB.

Those last two PI were the Refs fault. The first was a HORRIBLE call about bumping an arm but not holding it back.

That terrible call got the second, far more earned PI on White for tackling the recover before the ball got there.

            Buffalo gonna be screaming fix.

A kickoff return for a touchdown. Didn't know those still exist.

How in the hell was that an INT. Worst case - down or drop. I don't get what is a catch anymore. Dude has ball, is tackled down by contact, other guy steals ball. Seems simple no?

My gripe is (and I had no rooting interest in the game) that for 4 quarters I heard the announcers excuse all the grabbing of Cooks as "its the playoffs and the refs are letting them play". Then in the most crucial moment lesser offenses were considered PI by the same crew for the other team. Its a reputation thing and maybe a little "i want to go home" thing. Denver has the reputation of a dominant defense so they get to grab and pull in ways the Bills did not.

Still mad Creed Humphry is a Chief, Josh Simmons is a chief, Montez Sweat is a Redskin/Bear, Derwin James is a Charger, Cooper DeJean is an Eagle, Peyton Wilson is a steeler, Christian Gonzalez is a Patriot, I wanted Devonte Wyatt, but sad Quay Walker is a packer. I kinda liked the Stokes pick, that was my bad, but I had wanted Tevon Jenkins. Not sure he has been that good either.

However the constant picking of athletes over football players is old and stale. I'll even add that I said that Quay should be moved to edge and be a Micah Parsons light 2 years ago. The way he played downhill in Chicago just convinces me even more that I was right. He simply is lost in coverage most of the time. His 10 yard split was even better than Parsons if I recall.

He is a man under siege. O line just collapsing.

Their D and the Patriots Offenses fumbles make this game closer than it has any right to be.

                            Nearly another turnover.

On the replay he gets right up on that left rollout. Never guessed he was injured.
