  • Packers Trading Wicks To Eagles

The Green Bay Packers are trading wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a pair of draft picks, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The mid-April trade sends Wicks, who was entering the final year of his rookie deal, to Philadelphia, where he will get a one-year, $12.5 million extension. In return, the Eagles are sending a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to Green Bay.

Not a bad return but they weren't exactly selling him off a high point. Likely the best they were getting unless you gamble going into the season with him and hoping someone has a big time WR injured.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

      From Acme Packers:

      Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has clarified that the fifth-round pick that the Packers will get in the upcoming draft was originally the Atlanta Falcons’ fifth-round pick, the 153rd overall pick in the class.

Trading him even for not very much is a lot better than paying him what the Eagles are paying him. I'm glad it wasn't Reed that got traded.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Ya; I was bullish on him two years ago.

But I kinda thought they'd trade Reed for a player of value and throw Savion Williams (who appears to be a shit pick so far) into the fire
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

This does open up the wide receiver room a bit more; Savion Williams needs to show a lot of improvement this year or the Packers will be throwing more high-round picks at wide receiver next year.

Boy, I thought Wicks could be a monster out there. But he was hurt an awful lot.

Wicks had talent, but never much consistency. His college career was the same way. I'm sure he'll have some plays with the Eagles that will cause people to wonder whether the Packers erred in trading him, but it's probably the right move. Gute now has 6 picks on Day 3 of the draft. Wouldn't be surprised to see him draft a developmental WR with 1 of those picks.

This is a smart move. Get what you can for him. You can't keep hoping for potential. Time to move on.

I think it was a dumb trade personally. They didn't get much in return, and they likely would have gotten the same thing in compensation pick if he left in UFA. My gut feeling is he was a bit of a locker room problem and that's why they did this. The extension is large for a guy with a year left. He wanted a bag IMO.

He would have been at best their #4 WR this year. It's doubtful they would have gotten much if anything of a comp pick, which at any rate would not have been until 2027.

Didn't get much in return? Wicks was drafted at #159. They are getting back #153 this year and a 6th round pick next year. Some have suggested it is the Packers own 6th in 2027 which they sent to the Eagles for Darian Kinnard. Basically, they got their investment in Wicks back and got Kinnard for free. Not a bad return for a player who has been more of a tease than a performer so far.

Wicks has had his opportunities with the injuries to Watson, Reed, etc. Other than a flash here and there, he hasn't done much with his opportunities. Time to move on for both the team and player.

I wonder if maybe Wicks was one of the players LaFleur referred to, who were dissatisfied with their roles in 2025. With Reed, Watson and Golden likely ahead of him, his role wouldn't change much in 2026.

Actually, the comp pick would have been in 2028, not 2027. He wouldn't have left the Packers until 2027.

Unless Wicks had a real breakout season for GB in 2026, they would have been lucky to get a 6th round comp pick for losing him. More likely a 7th, .... maybe nothing.

Maybe the Packers learned a lesson from the Rasheed Walker experience. What might they have gotten for draft picks in 2025 or this year if they had traded him last off-season instead of losing him in free agency this year on a low level contract not likely to return much of a comp pick?

Seems we are on the same page lately. I loved the separation Wicks was able to achieve, but it never translated the way it should have. We got more for him after 3 years than we paid for him. Thats the right move at this point. My real issue right now is that we have Watson and a bunch of slot receivers. I guess Golden and Reed will take turns swapping the outside role.

Think about this for a second. A team valued Wicks FAR more than any team valued a starting LT. Walker wasn't great, but he is a legit starting LT. I'm still scratching my head at that contract.

Reed played primarily on the outside at Michigan State.
