The "bad" reporting comes in the fact that Coach Mac was very specific in regard to why Miree got promoted to the 53. Coach said very specifically that he was brought up because he has the body type that they are looking for on special teams. He also specifically said that he would be put 'in the mix' at fullback--not that we're considering starting him at fullback. They're considering giving him a few reps. What the coach specifically says trumps speculation based on what the player himself says or what the OC says about the consistency of another player. Jags did not say, if he doesn't improve we need to make a change there. All he said was he wants Hendu to be more consistent. They are not the same thing.

The reporter did not say he was GOING TO START. He said it was possible that he could start, which is what McCarthy said as well.

"in the mix" is a polite way of saying, we are not entirely pleased with the play at a position and want to see what the new guy can do.

Jennings was "in the mix" also. Now he starts BECAUSE he was better than Ferguson, so saying someone is "in the mix" means they will start IF they show they deserve to start.

Again, and this is my opinion, but I thought the article was one of the better articles written about a move and its potential affect on the team.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. M3 spoke of the possibility of him starting on special teams. Not to replace Hendu. So you really think that someone who was only a practice squad scrub last week could effectively come in and start this week after just a few reps in practice with Ahman?

This is my interpretation of the Article:

1. OUR Running game sucks!

2. Major blame is being passed onto " lead blocking assignment failures " by OUR FB's. That would be William Henderson and wanna be TE David Martin.

Specifically...

3. Vet. FB William Henderson and ( TE used part time at FB) David Martin have both been "inconsistent ... or unreliable" in their responsibility to forward block, for OUR RB's on rushing downs.

4. The Coaching staff needed a change. Because FB/ST's Brandon Miree has the potential and has demonstraed fast progress since he signed to OUR PS; and is well thought of by Ted Thompson.

Add " this fact" that the Coaching Staff has seen impressive results regarding Brandon Miree since we acquired him.

B.Miree knows "the ZBS" and as an added bonus can play ST's so he's been elevated to the 53 Man roster.

5. The Article says clearly, that Vet. FB William Henderson has not been as yet allocated to the bench.

It must be seen that there is now a competition between Henderson and Miree as to who will be the starter, but today it's William Henderson as OUR starter. The Article as I interpreted it told me. That on running downs if W H doesn't get it right very soon . W H will get his chain yanked and certainly on running downs... in favor of the new guy.. FB Brandon Miree.

Whatever it takes to get OUR Running game on some sort of track or we are " dead in the water ", as we have been existing.

WE can't win as OUR running game has been to date this Off Season /Regular season.

The RB's and the ball must be protected with better blocking, DAM it, BLOCKING.

It's on William Henderson. Get it on or you'll not start.

I notice that Brandon Miree may be able to catch the ball as well.

6. I'm of the opinion that Hendo will (at worst) be a backup at FB as he has too much experience and Leadership to be canned.He has been a value to us also on ST's.

7. Not sure what TE David Martin's status is? His future with the Packers has been in jeopardy for sometime. If he was so respeced at TE as a backup to Bubba Franks, why move him to a backup role at FB?

8. Have they released anyone as yet, with the addition of FB/ST's Miree ??

9. Mike Mccarthy went with so many TE's on his roster as they fit ST's. Now it's my look that Ted Thompson will release one TE soon...and don't be surprized if it's TE David Martin.

I just clicked on the links above. He spent his entire rookie year on injured reserve (thumb). He struggled with recurring injury during his senior year in college (foot). He has a short history, and it is dominated by injury.

It's my theory that some people are simply made of softer tissue than others, and the opposite is true as well. You see it in all sports ... there are some guys who always seem to be hurt, and there are others who never seem to be hurt even when it looks like they should have been. On one hand, you have guys like Najeh, who come up limping constantly, and on the other hand, there are guys like Brett Favre. Miree's history so far places him on the "Najeh" end of the spectrum. Of course, it's only a probability thing, not a sure prediction.

Absolutely! Obviously M. Night Shamalamadingdong took the idea to extremes for theatrical effect, but I think the general idea rings true.

Whether or not he starts, I'm just glad we have a blocker in practice that knows what this scheme is all about. The biggest problem we have is that EVERYONE is adjusting to a completely new scheme and no one is able to just go out there full steam ahead using their football instincts. Every player on the line and in blocking roles is still thinking too much from play to play about what their assignment is. This is to be expected, and will improve as the season moves forward. Having Miree in their during practice gives us a guy who went through all this last year with the Broncos, so he is probably more familiar with the system than most of the other rookies AND veterans on the team, so he can help them on and off the field with understanding this scheme. I say it's a smart move by TT. Hopefully he has some blocking TALENT to go along with his knowledge. We shall see.

You need to read the article again....

"On Wednesday, the Packers promoted practice squad fullback Brandon Miree to the 53-man roster and appear ready to get him on the field right away, possibly in the starting position William Henderson has held for the last 10 seasons."

"Miree's promotion to the active roster could signify a change. The 6-foot, 236-pound Miree shared the fullback snaps with Henderson Wednesday and said it was his understanding he might be in the lineup against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday night if he shows enough this week."

"Will and myself are going to get out there and practice as well as we can. Then they'll go ahead and make a decision who will start."

This is all conjecture by the reporter. Did anybody on the coaching staff say that Miree will or even might replace Henderson? Did anybody on the coaching staff signifies a change? Miree will probably replace Hendu on 1/3 of the snaps--like Leach did last year and like Martin was doing this year. I still think this could speak more about Martin's ability to play FB than Henderson. Henderson might not be a good fit in this scheme, and he may get replaced, but unless something concrete comes from the coaching staff it is all hearsay.

It's funny but I don't recall Henderson in on many downs where we rushed in the two games he played. In fact of the ones I did see him in he only missed one block. The problem with the running game isn't the FB. The FB isn't in a "zone blocking scheme" the FB takes out the first person he sees and then the next, etc. Henderson has been doing that and Green doesn't follow the lead. Green makes his cut and if Green guesses wrong he goes down. Green needs to follow the FB. Most of the running plays have been lead by a TE either in the backfield or in motion. The problem is the backside pursuit. The tackles aren't getting their cut blocks on that pursuit.

We need another FB, Henderson is good but he isn't what he used to be. I don't think this guy is the answer either. Letting Leach go was a mistake. They could have cut someone useless like Woodson to make room for a good player...
