  • The Front 4..... Pass Rush...

The front 4 on defense do a pretty decent job getting after the run but on the pass they are awful... On Bulger's second touchdown he had all day to throw.... KGB should learn a different move then just running foward... Ever heard of .. Spinning? or atleast trying to put a move on the guy....
THEY CATCH ON AFTER AWHILE BABY EINSTEIN...

The defensive tackles don't seem to do much but more than the DE's which is pathetic... And Kampman is either in the game, or so far out of the game you would not even know if he is watching it at home....

    Thoughts??

Schemeatically the DTs are supposed to keept the ends one on one with the tackles. They're doing a fine job.

I thought Kampman played a pretty decent game, and KGB was against one of the best in Orlando Pace.

It's awfully important to stop the run, and that has to be the first priority, but there's no question that a DE pass rusher needs to be the top defensive priority this offseason.

To me, Kampman and KGB have the complementary talents to man one spot between the two of them. Perhaps KGB requires too much effort on running downs to be effective on passing downs. He should be a passing-down specialist IMO. If he comes in the game fresh, he would make a good change of pace pass rusher for Kampman. A full-time DE that can play the run and pass is needed.

That would make a HUGE difference for this D.

With dwight freeny hitting fa next year, could he be the next reggie white for gb??? Could he be one of the missing keys?? I know we will have a lot of cap next year because the way T.T. handled some contracts (Woodson's -10mill this year).... Which was smart...
        OR
would the packers draft thier DE they are looking for since the draft looks very strong for that position...

The Packers are average against the run, that's it. They are not great and they do not "stuff" the run either. It's nice to say that stopping the run is a huge priority, but if teams can get over 270 yds/game passing with the QB having all day to throw, that's a huge DL problem.

Dwight Freeney is a good player, but he's undersized like KGB and plays indoors on turf. I also think he's out of TT's price range. Finally, he's no Reggie White.
Those types of players are once a generation types, and in this era would never make it to FA.

Again I saw KGB do his job. He took on Pace adn was usually doubled by either a TE/RB/Or Guard. That is what he is supposed to do. He eats up blockers so Kamp/Jenkins/Williams and the blitzers only have to beat one guy.

Does anyone know how many times we blitzed Bulger yesterday? I would have liked to have seen a few more called. Bulger cannot move so why not?

I do know this much, KGB was a better DE when he was only used on 3rd down. Yesterday on 2-3rd on long's a least, KGB wasn't even on the field. I think rotating that position is key because the tackles can't get used to one style vs. another. Kampman is a bull rusher with zero finess. KGB is a quick around the edge kind of rusher finess guy. I don't know who we have to take their place but I would venture to say they aren't very good otherwise Kampman and KGB would be off the field more then they are. I love Kampman but even he has to get tired out there.

I think our D-line is decent, not great but not bad. The packers are tied for 6th in the NFL with 14 sacks, and I think all were by the D-line except for 1 by Hawk. They are 11th in pass attempts faced per game with 33.2 which is only 1.2 more than #15 Carolina. Horrible mix-ups in the secondary are the biggest problem with this defense. Basically, the packers are like a lot of the teams in the NFL in that if they could add just one special guy on the D-line, it could be dominant.

Freeney is a very good DE. 35% of his sacks over the last 4 years came on the road so it's not like he only gets sacks at home. Every player does better at home vs the road. Would love to have him and trade KGB, but as you said, he's out of TT's price range and I doubt he would come here.

I think the single biggest difference-maker the Packers could pick up next year would be a DT or DE who consistently pressures the QB. A pocket-collapsing monster or a DE who's so fast he's at the QB before the guy can set.

The secondary would suddenly improve, guaranteed.

                              stop sugar coating it.

If anyone watched the game last week vs the eagles, the bears or other top teams in the league. YOU NEED TO SEND more than 4 people.

Several times in the Eagle Dallas game, when it was 3rd and more than 6, you can bet you were getting 5-7 players on the blitz. This, mind you, was with some no-name DB and Lito Sheppard returning after 3 weeks on the DL. ANY NFL QB will complete passes when we have no pressure.

I'd much rather go down fighting, take chance that Harris and Woodson can cover for 3sec....as other posters have said, he had all day to throw....you cannot expect DB to cover a WR for more than 5sec in the NFL, it just doesn't happen very often.
