      Speed

I saw Oregon play Arizona on TBS this past fall. What I saw of Ngata was impressive. His best play was on a running play where he blocked the running lane. He then shed his blocker, chased the back in the backfield and ran him down from behind.

He has size, he has speed. Yeah, the weight issue could be a problem. But I would be comfortable with him getting picked (only if we traded down in the top 10).

We would have to get 2 extra picks besides swapping first rnd picks.

If we didn't trade down, Williams (probably will be gone), Hawk or Vernon Davis would be great.

First of all, it takes 5 years to tell minimum.

Many of those busts are average starters. They aren't busts, they just aren't booms. Quinton Jammar starts on one of the best defenses in the league, Sims is labeled as pretty good as I recall

nah. Most of the them are starters.

Harrington is not a bust. Courtney Brown is still starting somewhere.

If Joey Harrington were in Green and Gold, he would rival Tony Mandarich as the biggest bust in our history. Seriously, how can you say Harrington isn't one of the worst starting QBs in the league? That's not a bust? Would you want the number 5 pick in the 2006 draft to no longer be a Packer or a starter on any team in four years?
Courtney Brown is a rotation guy for Denver. Gerald Warren and Brown were high draft picks for Cleveland who were marginal starters at best. The change of scenery helped when they went to Denver. Again, though, I consider them to be disappointments or even "busts" because they failed to impact their teams in a dynamic manner. KGB and Aaron Kampman were/are better players than either Warren or Brown, and they're not even rated in the top half of the league at their positions. When you invest a top five pick on a player that doesn't help your team, and he is let go/traded/allowed to bolt in free agency, etc., that to me is a bust.
              Just my opinion.

Harrington will be good in a few years. He's got the tools lacks the confidence.

But, I guess he's not a bust if you never expected him to be good

Looked like about a 33% bust rate.

That is not too bad. This year is a better than average top 9 IMO. Ngata is one of my favorite players in this whole draft. I know he's got a few issues but if he can stay healthy he could rival Bush/Williams as the best player in this draft.

                    Physically he's just amazing.

5 out of 25 of the 4, 5 and 6 players were busts. That is only a 20% bust rate.

I don't think as many of the 4 - 6 players are HOFers as the 1-3 but it looks like they have pretty low bust rates.

                        The 1-3 had a 20% bust rate
                        The 4-6 had a 20% bust rate

It's the 7-10 that is bringing the bust rate way up.

A lot of those guys labeled as "busts" are in the NFL.

Do the same experiment with later rounds. I think you'll see how strongly draft position correlates with success. Late round guys are lucky to be in NFL after 3 years.

So, it's true that a high draft pick may be a bust. But they are still MUCH more valuable than later picks. It's relative.

                            Right on HH...

The top 10 is the place to be if you want good players. The top 5 is even better.

I would be very surprised if whoever the Packers picks is a bust. I think Thompson has what it takes to pick the strongest player at that position.

Sorry, but a guy picked in the top 10 is a bust if he's only an average starter.
