Ferguson's agent blames FAVRE?!

"There's something going on up there," Overstreet said. "I don't know what it is, but I can tell you this: When he got hurt, he had played three quarters and they had thrown him one ball. Koren Robinson came in, and they threw him eight balls in less than a quarter. So that, to me, speaks volumes.

"I don't know what it is. I know he's a hard worker, but it's definitely something. Maybe it's Brett (Favre). Who knows?"

Overstreet said Ferguson might be better off with another team.

"It's obvious to me that he's not in their plans," Overstreet said. "You hate to say it, but you've got to be realistic. The guy's played six years, and they've constantly brought in people and put them in front of him.

"He doesn't drop balls. He blocks. He plays special teams. Like he told me once, he said, 'Hey man, I just really don't deserve this. I work hard. I do what they ask me to do, and I can't explain what it is.' (Jennings) earned the starting job in preseason. He never even played in a game. I don't get it."

I was kind of amazed at the agent's "excuses" when I read the article.

As is we can find other Robert Ferguson's; he's a marginal WR, probably now belongs as a #5, with good special teams ability.

I don't know if we can or not. Most on here seem to argue that TT has done a miserable job finding any so far. Why not just keep the one you have, the one you know, the one who knows your offense and your special teams approach?

I want someone better than Ferguson as a #3 to start the year next year, but I would feel very satisfied with him as the #4 or #5 receiver. I think many teams would be happy with him in that role.

A lot may depend on where Ferguson sees himself. If he contiunes to think of himself as a #1 receiver, as he has expressed many times, he may want an opportunity elsewhere. Otherwise, a release and re-sign could be used next year to get his salary more inline with his role. I doubt that will happen.

Is there a link to the story with the agent's comments? Could be just frustration over the injury.

I agree with Patler's comments. The guy gives effort and plays hurt...unfortunately, he gets hurt a lot.

I think the image of Ken Lucas (or was it Thomas Davis) ripping the ball away from him on MNF last year really solidified many people's opinions of Fergy. He's a teaser with his talent, and an overpaid #4 WR. All the same, he is the type of #4WR & spec.teams player GB needs. He might be done in GB, though.

Fergy is a nice guy, TT/McCarthy/Favre wants him back!? But why? Ferguson has NEVER produced offensively on the field, not enough to merit his rather high salery. Cut him loose, please - after the season. What's the progress in keeping a player that tease you, again and again?

Yes, there seems to be a lot of dislike for Ferguson around here. But the truth is, he's a valuable vetran contribution (when healthy...) that a lot of teams need around as a role player. Championship teams have guys like him to provide depth, albeit at lower salaries.

His draft position is a thing of the past. He had the misfortune to be drafted too close to Chambers. He's managed to make the team for 6 years, and I'd be curious to know how many players drafted in that round are still with thier teams.

I also think comparissons to Carroll aren't accurate. Carroll caused locker room problems (two fights) and generally speaking, wasn't reported to have a great attitude.

I admit that I can see a place for Ferguson on the team when I consider his special teams play. But, I just think about all the interviews he's had where he's talking himself up. He does play hard on special teams, but if those comments from his agent are meant to speak for him he's not happy about playing on teams.
I can't see him being content with yet another demotion and I can't see the team paying him that much money to play just on special teams. I think he'll be back in camp, but I think he'll have to win the 3rd spot to avoid a cut. There is an off chance that they decide overpaying him is worth the insurance after what we've seen the last two years at wide receiver.

BobDobbs, I agree. He should have a spot on an NFL roster. He's okay as a 3rd or 4th wideout, and he's solid on special teams. I just think he needs a fresh start.
