  • Pack signs RB

The Green Bay Packers Tuesday signed running back P.J. Pope from the Chicago Bears' practice squad and released center Chris White. Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson made the announcement.

Pope, a 5-foot-9, 218-pound rookie from Bowling Green, had signed with the Bears as a non-drafted free agent this past spring. Chicago's leading 2006 rusher during the preseason, he gained 153 yards on 40 carries (3.8 avg.) with one touchdown. He also had four catches for 43 yards (10.8 avg.) in non-league action.

A four-year letterman at Bowling Green (2002-05), Pope finished his career as the school's only player to rush for more than 3,000 yards and accumulate more than 1,000 receiving yards.

White, a second-year player, dressed but did not play in each of the Packers' first seven games.

We released Chris White?????? HUH! Who is our back-up center? I wonder if it is Spitz?

I LOVE the addition of PJ Pope. I know some people on this board were high on him and wanted us to sign him away from the Bears.

      Scouting report anyone?

And thus ends the Chris White era. Is there even a backup C on the roster?

Releasing Chris White.......hmmm.......I thought for sure that if they were going to release someone it would be Tracy White, not Chris White. I even double checked Packers.com and KFFL and sure enough...Center Chris White Released. This just doesn't make sense. Now, the Packers have practically no depth on the O-line. Not sure I agree with this.

I was rooting around on the Web for info on him and came across this "Rookie Diary" entry Pope wrote:

So what does "PJ" stand for? That seems really lame and sissified, almost as bad as "BJ." I say we help this new guy out and rename him.

How about "Giant" Pope? Or "Gregory" Pope? Or "Brock" Pope?

Hey, Bearman, we'll take your practice squad guy. And what's with this "pulling a train" thing? What do you know about that, anyway? You didn't take a turn with the neighbor's chihuaha, did you?

Maybe Coston will start backing up at center. Need to find a position that he can play instead of taking up roster space. Thought he was a center in college anyways....

Spitz played center at Lousiville. IF, god forbid, Wells were to get hurt, Spitz would move to center and Moll would replace him at guard.

Hmm; wasn't Hunter Hillenmeyer a Packer "leftover" ??
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER
