Raiders | Lofton reportedly set to become team's next head coach
    Tue, 16 Jan 2007 17:35:55 -0800

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers wide receivers coach James Lofton is reportedly set to become the Oakland Raiders' next head coach. Lofton and the Raiders are working on details of a contract, according to sources. Lofton could be named the team's head coach as early as Wednesday, Jan. 17.

The particulars are being worked out in a stairwell as we speak.
[QUOTE=George Cumby] ...every draft (Ted) would pick a solid, dependable, smart, athletically limited linebacker...the guy who isn't doing drugs, going to strip bars, knocking around his girlfriend or making any plays of game changing significance.

Good for Lofton. One of the two best receivers in Packers history.

I like Lofton as a player, but what has he done in SD as a coach of WR?

I can only guess that DOES NOT mean TE coach, so we can't give him credit for Gates? Who else? None of the receivers scare any other team.

Your right, this is a trainwrech waiting to happen....or does this mean the Calvin Johnson is the pick?

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Chargers receivers coach James Lofton and the Oakland Raiders spent much of yesterday negotiating details of a contract, sources said. The sides parted last night without an agreement but are scheduled to resume talks in the coming days. Lofton, who declined to comment, is almost certainly concerned about things such as how much control he will have under owner Al Davis and how many of the staffing decisions he will be allowed to make. Another source said the Raiders have told USC quarterbacks coach Steve Sarkisian he will be brought in for a second interview as well. Sarkisian has been considered the leading candidate.

Maybe Davis is taking a chapter from the "Arizona - How to Interview a Head Coach" Book

Lofton came out of no where didn't he?

What about Singletary? Wasn't he one of the "sexy new guys" last year?

              Sherman is a definite No??

I think he's done a pretty good job with what he has to work with. McCardell and Parker aren't a very good starting group, and Vincent Jackson really stepped up this year.

Wonder if he'll be player/coach, so the Raiders can finally get back to that vertical passing game that Al covets so much.

I wish Lofton well, but because of the owner, this may be the least desirable head coaching job in the league. If Al Davis really believed in "just win baby", he would remove himself from the football side of the operation. His ego prevents him from doing that.

                      any large breasted ladies present?

Lofton will share his predilection for fondling breasts without invitation with the California Governor.
