DECATUR, Ill. -- He doesn't want to do it, but diehard Chicago Bears fan Scott Wiese is changing his name.

The 26-year-old Forsyth man told friends that if his beloved team didn't win the Super Bowl, he'd become Peyton Manning after the Indianapolis Colts star quarterback.

He even signed a petition in front of 200 people last week at Decatur's Katz Piano Bar that he'd do it.

After the Colts defeated the Bears 29-17 on Sunday, Wiese started the process.

He trudged to the Macon County Courts Facility on Tuesday and filed the paperwork. The change still has to be approved by a judge.

Wiese says he really cares about the team and that his sacrifice represents the true passion of Bears fans.
"There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

Could be worse. He could have promised to change his name to Rex Grossman.

The Bears rather have him buy season tickets and authentic jerseys for all his friends than change his name.

The title of the thread says it well - Idiot.

A real stupid bet for sure but at least he is paying up. I hate it when people dont pay their bets.

Does he have to keep it like that forever or just for a while?

I gathered from the article that he plans to change it back after a while, which makes it twice as stupid. A legal name change is time-consuming and expensive, and he's gonna do it twice? Dumbass.

Not to mention, changing your name and then back is a mjor red flag with all the credit reporting agencies. A prime example of not thinking something through before doing it.

Bears fans may have passion, but apparently they don't have the first clue about the game of football...

Anyone who has a clue about the game knew the Bears stood no chance.

The article says a judge has to approve it. I wonder if the judge will let him off the hook by refusing the request.
