  • BUSTS!!!!

In a negative light, who do you think has the biggest chance in the 2006 draft to be a bust? Who tops your list? If you were a general manager who would you stay away from at all costs?

    Here is my list

Max Jean Gillies, OG, Georgia. He could possibly eat himself out of the league before he ever becomes a player in the NFL. He is already over weight and teams will have to invest serious time and effort to get his weight down, and to manage it 12 months out of the year.

Omar Jacobs, QB, Bowling Green. He was hyped as a legit Heisman contender before the start of the 2005 season. The fact is he is no better than any of the QBs that played at Texas Tech. It is a wide open system that QBs can feist on. His arm strength is questionable, and his throwing motion is terrible. I question any team that takes him higher than the fourth round.

Elvis Dumervil, DE, Louisville. Has not impressed scouts one bit since the season ended. He got his brains beat in at the Senior Bowl practices, and the scouts were less than thrilled with his pudgy physic. He may have collected 20 plus sacks but those numbers certainly won't carry over to the NFL. He simply doesn't have the height or the frame, to play as a down lineman, and he doesn't have the athleticsm to play linebacker. Damn the team that takes him higher than the 4th round.

going out on a limb here, but

    Reggie Bush

I was reading Greg Easterbrooks "Tuesday Morning Quarterback" which is always hilarious, and insightfull, and i would have to agree with his opinion on busch

In other football news, Reggie Bush will go very high in the draft. Truth or falsity of the house flap aside, Bush sure did look good in college, he seems to be a fine young man and he's leading a charge against the Illustrated Man fad in sports, so that's all to the good. (In the classic Ray Bradbury story, the "Illustrated Man" was not only covered with tattoos, but the tattoos moved; anyway, Bush doesn't have any tattoos.) But Bush weighs 200 pounds, and in recent annals few have been successful every-down NFL tailbacks at that weight -- Warrick Dunn, Thurman Thomas. In his final collegiate game, when USC needed two yards to win the national championship, not only did Bush not get the ball, he wasn't even on the field. Pete Carroll waved Bush to the sidelines when the championship was on the line. Something to think about if Reggie goes first.

never thought of it like that... but hey, i'd draft Williams over him, but i'd still draft him at #2

      VINCE YOUNG

For every bit as good as he was in college, his type of game and players like him have not had much resonating success in the NFL. In the NFL the talent level is so much higher that an individual can not consistently beat a team singlehandly.

He will single handedly end a persons duties as a team GM in three years.

I like your list, nutz. I have all three off those guys lower on my board than the consensus. Here are a few others:

        DE Parys Haralson
        DT Babatunde Oshinowo
        LB A.J. Nicholson

A couple that I'll go out on a limb on are:
        CB Jonathan Joseph
        S Jason Allen
        DT Orien Harris
        QB Brodie Croyle

Joseph wasn't all that good at South Carolina, and I didn't get a good vibe from Allen at the combine. He looked like a workout warrior that is a little stiff.

AJ nicholson, i think would be worth experimenting with a 6th

Some of have him going in the 4th round. I think that's too early. I definitely don't think you'll see the Packers and their need for fast LBs take him and his 4.89 40 time.

I was thinking of valid comparisons:

              Chad Greenway = Dan Morgan
Ernie Sims = Jonathan Vilma (but personally I don't think he has that upside)

I think Oregon's Haloti Ngata will be the biggest bust of the draft. Some team in the top 10 pick will choose him and come to regret the choice years later.

During the season, they will find that Ngata just does not have the fire nor the discipline to be a starting defensive tackle. By the second season, he will be developing more of a weight problem.

After 3 years, Ngata will be out of pro football.

Mario Williams won't be a bust. He may not be a pro-bowler but he'll atleast be solid against the run. He is just too big and too strong to not be good against the run. He could be like Courtney Brown, who is a decent player though never lived up to the hype.

I would consider Courtney Brown to be a bust.

well then you're wrong because he started on a great defensive team that went to the afc championship, and that team did everything it could to keep him. I think Cleveland is just the armpit of the NFL these days..

I guess we're gonna just have to disagree. I call a player who has only started a full season once in his career, was the #1 overall pick, and has never made a Pro Bowl a bust, particularly when you compare him to the next two DE's taken in the 2000 draft, Shaun Ellis and John Abraham:
