Lombardi hated to have the Packers play on Thanksgiving and so do I! While Lombardi hated it primarily because it interfered with a family holiday, I hate it because historically the Packers do not do well on Thanksgiving days. Even during the Lombardi glory years, the Packers did not perform well on those days.
Many players do not like the Thursday games for two reasons: 1. They don't get enough time to physically heal from the previous game 2. They don't get enough time to prepare from Sunday's game to Thursday's game.
I know my wife will hate it because I will be hovering around the TV this day.
That SUCKS! Oh well, another Thanksgiving with the family gathered and me off by myself watching the Pack.
You mean you haven't explained to the woman of the house that if the Packers play the early game, dinner is at 3, and if the Packers play the late game, dinner is to be done by 3?

That's how it is in our house.

One year, we went with my wife's side of the family to Vegas for Thanksgiving. We arrived on Thanksgiving Day and we had to wait for forever to get the rental car (while the game was on). Getting back to the airport to pick up several of her family members, we discovered that they were not even close to being organized to get to the hotel.
My wife surprised me when she told me to get into the car. We left her family at the airport and she drove me to the nearest casino (I forget which one off-hand). I jumped out and she yelled with a smile on her face: "Happy Thanksgiving! I hope the Packers win! Stay at the sportsbook after the game and I'll find you."
She is pretty down on professional sports, but abandoned her parents, her aunt, 2 of her uncles and 2 cousins at the airport so that I could watch the Packer game. I never had to ask if I could, but she knew the Pack are important to me. Best T-Day ever. Of course, the buffett at the Rio was totally kickass that night.
So I don't mind if the Pack plays on Thanksgiving. I know I'm already covered.

No problems with the wife understanding. It's just dinner is always at dad's and I've learned from bitter experience, me watching a Packer game with all the Bear lovin relatives is an explosion waiting to happen. I once came close to punching an uncle after Favre had thrown a pick and he laughed. Yeah, I know, I take this shit way to seriously........

Man that is true !!
That was the game where McMahon almost brought the lions back in the 4th quarter right?

Sorry, I forgot you're behind enemy lines. I used to be, but escaped.

Great story, Cheesehead Craig!
First, tell your wife that you love her dearly.
Second, clone your wife and then sell the clone on Ebay to the highest Packer fan bidder!

Damn I was a complete basket case that day. In-laws were in town from Minneapolis and loved the fact Detroit was coming back. All they needed was the two point conversation to tie and incredible comeback to go to OT. I was squirming big time. When McMahon failed to convert I lept from the couch and launched a string of expletives in full throat. *&Y^$)% you *($#*#@ Lions piece of *#%%3!!
Thanksgiving dinner was rather quiet that evening.
That'll teach them to bring their kids along.
Hate it when the Pack plays Thanksgiving and vowed that day I would forego any gatherings henceforth if they played on that day again.
I am not the only football fan at our gatherings and it's understood ahead of time that if they want me in the room with them, the game better be on and if we're eating, the TV is turned toward the table and the kids have a primer in "don't listen to anything Aunt MJ says while the game is on."
I wonder if this is why they started having Thanksgiving dinner on Fridays...
