    Packers re-sign DT Cole

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed defensive tackle Colin Cole, an exclusive rights free agent.

Cole started three games in 2006 and appeared in all but one of the 16 regular-season games, making 53 tackles and one sack.

In two-plus NFL seasons, Cole has appeared in 34 games, including eight starts.

Cole has been an exclusive rights player playing on one year contracts and every year he drags his feet and is the last or nearly the last exclusive rights free agent to sign. Holiday will be the last this season.

There is just something about signing late every year that makes me think he will not be back next season.

I like his playing ability and the price is right. There has not been talk about an extension for him. Hopefully he turns in a "contract year" performance.

to say Coles was inconsistent last year would be kind. At least we're signing bodies.

Cole is a decent player, but Jolly has more talent. If Jolly can get healthy, and be the player the Packers think he is, Cole could be expendable after this year.

Not bad. Decent part of the DT rotation. Knows the system. Will have a game from time to time where he stands out. Type of player that won't kill you like Darius Holland in Super Bowl XXXII.

He went from starting DT to inactive in two games. He got that honor with some real stinko play. Hopefully the young guy learned a lesson.

We've got a decnt rotation of young DT's if all these guys improve.

I agree. Jolly seems to be a guy who could make a big leap. Talk about improvement from withing; this guy, Jolly, is a perfect example of a young guy who might perform better than just about any of the junky UFA's that were available this off-season.

Why is it when a guy gets beat out for a position he's expendable? Every position needs backup.
