Someone care to brighten my day by listing some other draft picks throughout history that were as baffling and disappointing as taking Sander with a 3rd?

I honestly can't think of any.
Maurice Clarrett didn't make it out of his first camp.

Brett Conway, K, Penn State 3rd round pick 1997 draft number #90 overall.
Sander was only released because Houston had traded its 2nd rounder in the Schaub trade. If they had that 2nd rounder back.....I'm certain Sherman would've convinced the Texans to go after Sanders before he hit the open market!!
Life is a puzzle. Every day you get up and pick up the pieces from the day before.

Lawrence Phillips - #6 in the first round
Ryan Leaf - #2 first round
I could go on and on
Sorry, but Ryan Leaf was not a baffling pick. Although I'm sure you could find some experts (especially using hindsight) who would claim "I told you so" most certainly had him pegged as a possible future franchise QB, and there was no shortage of debate over whether he or Peyton should go first.
Was he a bust? Of course. Was he a baffling pick? no
