Overall, I think TT is a good GM...

So far, he's had one below average draft and offseason ('05), and one above average draft and offseason ('06).

I fear Rodgers is a bust, although we all know he'll get his shot; hated how he mishandled the Walker thing (no, don't want to reargue it); he should have resigned Green (the Packers have no starting calibur RB on the roster); he, at least initially, undervalued the importance of the OL (the '05 disaster); he seems to be doing the same thing with the RB position in '06; et al.

My fear with TT is that he is too rigid... can a guy who is as rigid as TT pull off the necessary moves to fill all the holes, all at once, for a run at one championship??? Let alone multiple championships.

To me, it's all about winning championships... I sometimes get the feeling that TT would be happy as a clam to be 10-6 every year for the next 20, but not care less whether they ever won it all.

He's had a very good track record and had the best draft that we've had in a long time even if you take Hawk out.

He was also picking much higher than usual, though. That is not to be underestimated.

Last years draft and improvement bought him another year. He now has atleast this draft as well as one more to show he can field a playoff team. If he doesn't after 2008, he's donezo.

That's why I said even if you take Hawk out. If you take Hawk out we had 2 seconds instead of a late first and a late second. Take Hawk out and that is even playing field to Sherman.

Even without Hawk; I think we end up with more starters from this group than from any of Shermans drafts.

Can't talk about anything like that. That's a player that's under contract with another team. I think I mentioned this to most of you guys during the spring, but it would be the same if you asked me if we were trading for Peyton Manning. Same answer.

He seemed like a nice guy. It was a nice visit. He seemed to have a good time and the people he visited with seemed fine.

So GMs CAN'T say anything about a player under contract (presumeably because they could affect their value), but they CAN comment on a draft pick? Shouldn't the same rule be in place for draft picks? Wouldn't the same logic apply to a draft pick? Why shouldn't GMs be able to say anything about any player anyway? It's all idiocy. TT could say something false, and people could swallow it, just as easily say he could say something he believes about the player and people could think he's blowing smoke. Or vice versa. It's like the poison game in Princess Bride - the best strategy is not to play. TT should be able to say anything he wants about a players' ability on the field and people have to decide whether they care or not.

Draft picks aren't even in the league. They can talk all they want about them because they aren't under contract. It makes sense that you can't talk about a player who is under contract with another team.

That's not very convincing. I'm pretty sure I've heard GMs say that a player was 'pretty good' or 'great,' etc. I think the reality is that they can't talk about their contract and/or their desires or efforts to get them on their team. The issue I'm raising is that I think there is fundamentally no difference between a GM talking about a draft pick or a contracted NFL player, possibly to change perception about the guy and change the chances of the GMs team aquiring that player. Any such comments would be largely pointless as you might not know whether bluffing was going on (referring back to the 'TT as poker-player' analogy)
