    • Bears take....

      Dan Bazuin
      DE | (6'2", 266, 4.77) | CENTRAL MICHIGAN

      Scouts Grade: 65
View by: Round | Player | NCAA School | Position | NFL Team | Flag | All

Strengths: Shows good closing speed and is a big hitter that can jar the ball loose. Anticipates the snap well, possesses an explosive first step and makes it difficult for offensive linemen to get into position. Possesses good top-end speed and is capable of turning the corner. Has good athletic ability and can redirect inside after starting outside. Times jumps well and generally gets hands up when isn't going to get to the quarterback. Appears comfortable in space, has the speed to develop decent underneath zone cover skills and could line up at linebacker in certain situations. Plays with a mean streak and possesses excellent upper body strength. Plays with a non-stop motor, shows adequate instincts and always seems to be around the ball at the end of the play. Possesses good balance and rarely gets knocked to the ground.

Weaknesses: Possesses just adequate size, doesn't have the frame to add substantial bulk and is vulnerable to wearing down when teams consistently run at him. Doesn't have great lower body strength and is a liability as a run defender when working against powerful drive blockers. He needs to learn to use his hands better and not to let blockers get into his body as easily. Can be overaggressive and gets caught too far upfield at times. While extremely productive at the collegiate level, didn't play in one of the premiere conferences and there are some concerns about ability to produce working against a considerably higher level of competition.

Overall: Bazuin sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt. He then stepped right into the starting lineup at defensive end in 2003 for all 12 games, recorded 70 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, six sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. Bazuin started all 11 games in 2004 and finished the year with 50 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, recovered one fumble, and blocked four kicks. In 2005, he once again started every game (11) and was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year. He made 74 total tackles, led the nation with 26.5 tackles for loss, was second in the nation with 16 sacks, forced five fumbles, and recovered one fumble. In 2006, Bazuin started 13 of 14 games (missing Kentucky game because of injury) finishing with 67 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries , one returned for a touchdown.
Bazuin is a fierce, instinctive and speedy defensive end who dominated the mid-major level of competition throughout his collegiate career. He did not have his best showing as a senior but it must be taken into account that he was dealing with the loss of his brother, who passed away in the preseason, and he also was battling a lingering knee injury. When at his best, we believe Bazuin is a better prospect than former CMU player Jason Babin, who has not lived up to expectations as the Texans' second of two first round picks in 2003. Bazuin projects as an early second-day selection in the 2007 draft.

Swede: My expertise in this area is extensive. The essential difference between a "battleship" and an "aircraft carrier" is that an aircraft carrier requires five direct hits to sink, but it takes only four direct hits to sink a battleship.

            • It could be Charles Johnson.

              No, it couldn't.

              It could be Trent Edwards.

              I hope not.

It could be Bush or Pittman.

              Please, God!

              • What's up Wist...

I think you're going to like Harrell. Everythign we're finding out about the guy is positive. He's a beast at sheddign blocks. He's a hard nosed football player with a drive like no other.

He was the first person to be given Reggies # at Tennessee and according to UT officials he'll be the last to ever wear the #.

Reggie McKeinzie has some ties to Tennessee and he gets some reliable info according to Ted. They said the loved him and he is a worker. NOt only that but he's built like a brick shithouse and he's not a little pansie wearing skirts like the Packers of old.

I think you'll like him but that is just a guess based on what you don't like

The Packers ranked 4th in the NFL, behind SD, Balt, and Miami, in QB Sacks in 2006.

The defensive line has been amazingly stout 2 years in a row.

The Packers like to do a lot of rotation in the middle, and want to have a LOT of good defensive linemen.

You can never go wrong solidifying the trenches.
