Thats why I mentioned the ones he hit at Iowa State and Miami. That demonstrates he can hit long ones anywhere.
It was a hell of a kick. 60 yards that could have been made from at least 65.

If Rayner wins the job, but Crosby shows promise if he gets a few things worked out with coaching and practice, can you stash him on the practice squad (he was a highly touted prospect, someone who loses a kicker might sign him?)? Is he worth a roster spot?

Personally, I say if he comes into practice and starts booming kickoffs through the end zone, you give him a roster spot. It's not unheard of, and with a guy like Hester in the division, short kicks are very dangerous. If not, throw him on the practice squad. The main knock is his mechanics (and I don't know why you'd screw up something that's working well) and he hits deep balls low (so does every other kicker)

I really like this pick and still had concerns with Rayner
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

All of the comments I have heard concerning this pick have been very positive and as others have stated we still needed a kicker. Some had this guy going day one. I read something about the guy having to smash 60 golf balls two days before the game as part of some football ritual so Favre should have somebody to play with again.

Crosby was a great pick. He's got a huge leg with accuracy. Yet he has bad mechanics - watch him on YouTube and you'll see his lazy approach to his his FG. No wonder he gets blocked a lot; Crosby has slow'n'lazy mechanics that will get 10-15% of all his FGs blocked in the NFL - I think that's why he dropped in the draft (3rd kicker picked though most gifted).

Well Crosby, welcome to the PACKER TRAINING CAMP OF CORRECTIONS!

Lets not forget Rayner "unofficially" kicked the longest field goal ever at gb.

Against the 'Fins. Then there was some dumb penalty, against the 'Fins, that forced us to re-kick. Then he kicked another one and made it, but our penalty nullified it. That was crazy.

I wonder how much $ it would take to get him to change his name to Mason Dixon. :P

If I were Rayner I would have quit the team right there.

George Teague has the longest int. returned for a TD but he was average at best.

If Rayner is better he'll beat out Crosby in camp - I just want a great kicker 'cos it's very underrated.

What is interesting to me is that the Packers seem to be more concerned about their kicking position that they're punter. The Quote from the special teams coach I read @ JSO said that they were not going to draft a punter and really gave a strong vote of confidence to to Jon Ryan.
Maybe they have seen something during this offseason. Coming out of last season I felt that we definitely needed a new punter and I thought Rayner looked like he might turn into a good kicker.
As far as the season goes. If we can carry four TEs we can carry two kickers instead. But who do you cut for that spot. An LB, a WR, DL ???? And on game days if Crosby is there as a kickoff specialist then he's got to be active on the 45. I think he's got to win the job or be cut. He's only a sixth.
Unless he flops in training camp we probably won't be able to hide him on the practice squad.

Packers signed some crazy Aussie to compete with Ryan; his name is DAVID LONIE and wears # 6. More power to Lonie...or Ryan, I just want a great punter. :P
